Job Description
The Quality Engineer supports customers by managing quality concerns, implementing corrective actions, and driving continuous improvement across manufacturing operations. This role uses Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) processes and root cause analysis to identify issues, develop sustainable solutions, and ensure products consistently meet quality, cost, and customer expectations.
Responsibilities
- Support customers by addressing quality concerns, coordinating responses, and ensuring timely and effective resolution.
- Utilize APQP processes to plan, monitor, and improve product and process quality throughout the manufacturing lifecycle.
- Lead and participate in corrective action audits and cross-functional problem-solving teams to support continuous improvement and meet performance criteria.
- Understand, communicate, and train operational personnel on customer-specific requirements to ensure compliance and consistency.
- Perform process capability and measurement studies using appropriate statistical techniques to evaluate and improve process performance.
- Document manufacturing processes and implement continuous improvement actions to support quality, cost efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
- Learn and interpret customer-specific quality system requirements and ensure they are integrated into internal processes and procedures.
- Act as a liaison with external parties, including customers, on matters related to program and quality requirements.
- Read and interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and direct dimensional layouts, and coordinate testing and timing as needed.
- Participate in quality investigations to determine root causes, define corrective and preventive actions, and verify their effectiveness.
- Support and contribute to the development and maintenance of the quality management system and related documentation.
- Conduct or support audits related to quality systems, processes, and products to ensure ongoing compliance and performance.
- 2+ years of experience in manufacturing quality engineering.
- Hands-on experience with APQP processes in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in root cause analysis and root cause failure analysis for quality issues.
- Experience with PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation and requirements.
- Experience with PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).
- Knowledge of quality engineering principles and practices in a production setting.
- Experience working within a quality management system and quality management processes.
- Ability to perform process capability and measurement studies using statistical techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret GD&T and dimensional layouts.
- Strong skills in conducting and supporting audits related to quality.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree.
- Automotive manufacturing experience (preferred).
- Experience with injection molding processes (preferred).
- Experience with plating operations (preferred).
- Experience with assembly operations (preferred).
- Demonstrated ability to train and coach operational personnel on customer-specific requirements.
- Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with customers and internal teams.
- Self-starter with high initiative, especially in environments with limited on-site technical support.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and contribute to building and strengthening the engineering team.
- Interest in continuous improvement and willingness to support and lead problem-solving initiatives.
The work environment includes injection molding and plating lines, where some areas can be hot and dirty due to the nature of the processes. The role is based at a site with limited technical support on-site, so the Quality Engineer must work independently and proactively. The environment is fast-paced, with opportunities to help build and develop the engineering team. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Nicholasville, KY.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $47.00/hr.
