Job Description
This role involves providing senior-level engineering and project management support for complex capital budget and operational projects. The position is responsible for managing multiple assignments safely and cost-effectively from planning through execution. It ensures regulatory compliance, schedule adherence, and budget control. The project manager serves as a technical lead and subject matter expert, working independently while guiding and mentoring staff and contractors. This role also represents the organization with members, vendors, contractors, and leadership.
Responsibilities
- Develop, finalize, and manage reports and work plans aligned with short- and long-term objectives, budgets, and economic considerations.
- Lead the development and coordination of departmental and project work plans; monitor progress, implement corrective actions, and communicate major changes or risks to leadership.
- Manage multiple, complex assignments simultaneously while providing regular status updates to management.
- Serve as a technical representative in meetings with members, the public, vendors, contractors, and other utilities.
- Analyze technical and operational data to make sound recommendations and decisions.
- Maintain, review, and approve technical records including drawings, files, databases, and documentation.
- Prepare or oversee preparation of cost estimates, work orders, schedules, and related documentation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable procedures, specifications, safety requirements, codes, regulations, and standards.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams, supervisors, and external stakeholders.
- Understand and account for how engineering decisions impact interconnected systems, operations, and processes.
- Provide engineering support and technical assistance to members and maintain corporate standards and technical specifications.
- Train, mentor, and provide work direction to less experienced engineers, staff, and contractors.
- Oversee and manage high-cost, high-complexity capital projects.
- Manage capital project budgets in alignment with approved estimates.
- Determine required equipment, materials, staffing, and resources to safely and successfully execute projects.
- Ensure full compliance with safety, environmental, and building code requirements.
- Identify, assess, and manage project risks.
- Partner with scheduling teams to develop, maintain, and manage critical path schedules.
- Establish and maintain project development plans to manage assignments and resources.
- Track and report key project performance indicators.
- Conduct pre-bid meetings, attend bid openings, and manage contract conformance for projects over $1M.
- Allocate, delegate, and manage resources to ensure project success.
- Communicate project status to all stakeholders through regular progress reports.
- Prepare and deliver presentations to senior leadership.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to eliminate non-value-added processes.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- 7+ years of stand-alone project management experience with cradle-to-grave projects.
- Experience in large capital project management.
- Project management, capital project management, scope development, construction, project coordination, client relationship management, client communication, project life cycle, schedule management, budgeting, and scope management.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License or plans to obtain it.
- PMP certification is preferred.
- Experience in energy/power or industrial projects is preferred.
The position is based on-site at the headquarters in Winchester, KY, with a flexible team environment. The typical work schedule is from 8 AM to 5 PM but may require overtime depending on project phases and deadlines. The role involves driving to project sites as needed, with projects ranging from greenfield, brownfield to power generation or transmission and distribution. Project portfolios are assigned based on technical experience and capabilities, with support from other engineers and staff when needed. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $125000.00 - $198000.00/yr.
