Job Description
This role focuses on creating clear, detailed assembly and repair documentation that supports engineers throughout the product life cycle. You will work closely with engineering teams and contract manufacturers to capture complex technical processes, photograph them, and translate them into accessible instructions for end users and production staff. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge technology while ensuring that technical information is accurate, consistent, and easy to understand.
Responsibilities
- Create detailed assembly and repair instructions that guide users through each step of the process.
- Support engineers throughout the product life cycle across multiple projects by producing and maintaining technical documentation.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to observe processes, capture details, take photographs, and develop clear written documentation.
- Interface with contract manufacturers as needed to ensure documentation accurately reflects real-world assembly and repair practices.
- Simplify complex technical and engineering concepts into clear, concise language that is easily understood by end users and non-technical audiences.
- Independently plan, draft, and finalize complete documents for assembly and repair procedures, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Develop and maintain work instructions and repair manuals for use in manufacturing and production environments.
- Use Microsoft Publisher and other tools to format and publish professional-quality technical documents.
- Leverage photography to illustrate procedures, including capturing clear images of equipment, components, and processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams working on robotics, automated equipment, and complex electromechanical systems to ensure documentation reflects current designs and practices.
- Use task tracking tools such as Jira, when applicable, to manage documentation tasks and track progress.
- Continuously refine documentation based on feedback from engineers, manufacturing personnel, and end users.
Essential Skills
- Proven ability to communicate at a deep technical level and understand complex engineering concepts.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise technical content.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Publisher for creating and formatting technical documents.
- Ability to use a point-and-shoot camera to capture clear, useful images for inclusion in documentation.
- Experience writing assembly instructions in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Ability to translate technical concepts into layperson-friendly language for end users.
- Technical writing experience, including creating work instructions and repair manuals.
- Familiarity with engineering and manufacturing processes.
- 1+ years of professional experience in technical writing, engineering, or a related field.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with Jira or similar tools for task tracking and documentation management.
- Technical experience or degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience working with robotics, automated equipment, or complex electromechanical systems.
- Comfort working in a manufacturing or production environment alongside engineering teams.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and consistency in documentation.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
Work Environment
You will report to the Principal Technical Writer and work closely with engineers across multiple groups in a manufacturing and production environment that involves robotics, automated equipment, and complex electromechanical systems. The role is primarily onsite, with the expectation that you can be present at the facility essentially every day; there may be limited flexibility to work from home one or two days per week depending on project needs. You will regularly move between engineering areas and production floors to observe processes, take photographs, and verify documentation. The environment emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and hands-on interaction with cutting-edge technology. The workplace offers daily catered lunches and the opportunity to contribute directly to advanced technological products. Dress expectations align with a professional manufacturing and engineering setting, including any safety-related attire required on the production floor.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Bedford, MA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $53.00/hr.
