Job Title: Set Up Operator
Job Description
This role focuses on operating and setting up production machinery in a large, climate-controlled manufacturing facility. You will run machines, perform setups and adjustments, troubleshoot issues, and complete preventative maintenance while ensuring products meet quality standards. New hires complete a structured training program on 1st shift before transitioning to their assigned shift, with clear opportunities for advancement and long-term career growth.
Responsibilities
- Operate production machinery safely and efficiently to meet daily output and quality targets.
- Set up machinery for different jobs, including adjusting heights, speeds, and feeds according to specifications.
- Perform final inspection on products to ensure they meet quality and dimensional requirements.
- Read and interpret blueprints and drawings to understand job requirements and machine setups.
- Obtain and stage raw materials prior to starting production runs.
- Organize finished product into the correct areas and maintain clear labeling and order.
- Troubleshoot machine issues and make basic mechanical or operational adjustments to minimize downtime.
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks on machinery to keep equipment in good working condition.
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of required protective equipment.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to communicate issues, share updates, and support continuous improvement.
- Participate in training and performance reviews and apply feedback to improve skills and performance.
- Lift and move materials and products weighing up to 45 pounds as part of daily tasks.
Essential Skills
- Experience in machine operating or higher-level assembly work in a production or fabrication environment.
- Hands-on experience with machine setup, including adjusting machine parameters such as heights, speeds, and feeds.
- Experience troubleshooting machinery and performing preventative maintenance tasks.
- Ability to read and work from blueprints and technical drawings.
- Capability to perform quality checks and final inspections on finished products.
- Physical ability to lift up to 45 pounds safely and repeatedly.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Reliability and consistency in attendance, punctuality, and following standard work procedures.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a fabrication shop environment is highly transferable.
- Experience in the automotive industry beyond basic oil changes translates well to this role.
- Previous experience in high-volume production, machining, or industrial manufacturing is beneficial.
- Familiarity with quality checks, inspection methods, and documenting results is an asset.
- Comfort working in a unionized environment after eligibility is met.
- Willingness to work overtime when available and as needed.
