We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Forklift Operator to efficiently move, load, and organize lumber and related building materials in a busy yard environment. This role is essential to ensuring smooth daily operations, accurate inventory flow, and timely service for customers and contractors, while maintaining a clean and orderly work area.
Responsibilities- Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment to safely load, unload, and transport lumber and building materials throughout the yard.
- Safely stack, store, and organize lumber and related materials in designated yard areas to optimize space and accessibility.
- Assist with inventory management by tracking incoming and outgoing shipments and ensuring materials are placed in the correct locations.
- Perform daily inspections of forklifts and other equipment, promptly reporting any maintenance or safety issues.
- Support customers and delivery drivers by accurately and efficiently loading orders according to specifications and safety guidelines.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in compliance with company policies and OSHA standards.
- Collaborate with yard staff and leadership to ensure an efficient workflow and timely completion of loading and unloading activities.
- Use pallet jacks, RF scanners, and other tools to pick, move, and verify materials as needed.
- Follow all safety procedures and best practices to prevent accidents and protect coworkers, customers, and property.
- Proficiency operating forklifts, including sit-down and stand-up models, in a yard or warehouse environment.
- Experience with material handling, including loading, unloading, and transporting lumber or building materials.
- Ability to use pallet jacks and RF scanners to pick and move materials accurately.
- Valid forklift certification or license, or willingness to obtain one within a specified timeframe.
- Ability to lift and move heavy materials, up to 50 pounds, on a regular basis.
- Strong attention to safety and detail when operating equipment and handling materials.
- Good communication skills to coordinate with yard staff, delivery drivers, and other team members.
- Effective teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
- Previous experience in a lumber yard, warehouse, or construction supply environment is preferred.
- Comfort working with outdoor materials such as lumber and other building supplies.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to established procedures.
- Reliability and punctuality, with a strong work ethic and commitment to completing tasks safely and efficiently.

Work EnvironmentThis position is based in an outdoor lumber yard setting with regular exposure to weather conditions, dust, and noise. The role is physically demanding and requires standing, walking, lifting, and operating equipment for extended periods throughout the day. You will work with forklifts, pallet jacks, RF scanners, and other material-handling equipment in an environment that emphasizes adherence to safety standards and proper use of personal protective equipment.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lakeville, MA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
