We are seeking a highly motivated Field Service Engineer to support advanced analytical instrumentation used by leading life sciences researchers. In this customer-facing role, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and validation of sophisticated laboratory instruments while delivering an exceptional customer experience. This position offers the opportunity to work with innovative technologies that support groundbreaking research in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and academic laboratories.
Position Summary
The Field Service Engineer serves as a technical expert responsible for ensuring optimal instrument performance at customer sites and remotely. Working closely with customers, sales teams, engineering, and customer success teams, you will diagnose and resolve technical issues, perform preventative maintenance, conduct system validations, and provide technical support to maximize instrument uptime and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, calibrate, repair, and validate laboratory instrumentation at customer locations.
- Perform preventative maintenance and corrective service activities to ensure reliable system performance.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, optical, and software-related issues and implement effective solutions.
- Support IQ/OQ/PQ activities and maintain thorough service documentation.
- Provide technical support via phone, email, and on-site visits.
- Document service activities, customer interactions, and maintenance records in CRM and quality systems.
- Collaborate with engineering, sales, and product teams to communicate customer feedback and support product improvements.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships through professional and responsive service.
- Manage travel schedules efficiently and submit timely service and expense reports.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Bioengineering, Optical Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience servicing scientific, analytical, medical, or laboratory instrumentation.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills involving technical and mechanical systems.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Willingness to travel extensively as required.
Preferred
- Experience supporting life science or biotechnology instrumentation.
- Familiarity with instrument qualification and validation processes (IQ/OQ/PQ).
- Basic laboratory skills, including pipetting and sample preparation.
- Experience working in regulated environments and documenting activities within quality systems.
Travel Requirements
- Ability to travel approximately 50% to 75%, including domestic and occasional international travel.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, and perform detailed hands-on technical work for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in laboratory and customer-site environments.
Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Woburn, MA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
