Job Title: Construction Assistant Project Manager


Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Project Manager with Experience in construction project engineering. This role involves managing projects in various sectors including schools, public buildings, fire stations, and hospitals, with a focus on both large and small commercial ground-up construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of experience in the construction field and will be responsible for assisting in managing multiple projects ranging from 2 to 14 at one time, depending on their size.


Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and direct activities concerned with the construction and maintenance of structures, facilities, and systems.
  • Study job specifications to determine appropriate construction methods, time, and costs.
  • Prepare contracts and negotiate revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements with architects, consultants, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Obtain all necessary permits and licenses.
  • Schedule projects in logical steps and budget time required to meet deadlines.
  • Explain plans and contract terms to field personnel, administrative staff, and other team members including Superintendents, Laborers, and Carpenters.
  • Inspect and review projects to monitor compliance with building and safety codes and other regulations.
  • Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve complaints and problems as necessary.
  • Ensure all schedules are met and quality control is maintained.
  • Assist co-workers in additional tasks to help meet the company's overall business objectives.
  • Maintain knowledge of company policies, standards, and procedures, as well as company equipment, applications, and resources.
  • Understand business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, and leadership.

Essential Skills

  • Experience managing both large and small projects with an average budget of $3-5 million.
  • Minimum of 3 years in the construction field.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, time management, and cost estimation.
  • Ability to prepare contracts and negotiate terms.
  • Familiarity with obtaining necessary permits and licenses.
  • Experience in scheduling and budgeting projects.
  • Understanding of building and safety codes and regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to resolve complaints and issues.
  • Proficiency in long-term project planning and quality control verification.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the AIA 17 division breakdown.
  • Understanding of strategic planning, resource allocation, and leadership principles.

Work Environment

This role is primarily office-based, with occasional visits to job sites. The Assistant Project Manager will support the Project Manager in managing the Superintendent and other on-site staff. The office is located in a brand new building with on-site parking and easy access to main highways. The environment offers a small personal feel, with smaller teams working directly with the president on larger, interesting projects.
