We are seeking an experienced Job Cost Accountant to oversee all daily, monthly, and annual accounting functions while managing the financial aspects of residential construction projects from inception to completion. This individual will play a critical role in monitoring project costs, identifying financial risks before they become issues, and ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting across multiple entities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction accounting, job costing, and full-cycle accounting, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Responsibilities- Manage all daily, monthly, and annual accounting functions, including accounts payable, account maintenance, cash management, and bank reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly and year-end financial statements and maintain accounting records on both cash and accrual accounting bases.
- Coordinate with external CPA firms regarding tax filings and year-end reporting.
- Oversee job costing for residential home building, remodeling, and development projects.
- Set up new projects, contracts, budgets, and cost codes.
- Monitor project costs and profitability throughout the lifecycle of each project.
- Review and track change orders and job budgets.
- Analyze project performance and identify cost overruns, opportunities, and financial risks before they impact project profitability.
- Prepare and maintain detailed job cost reports for leadership.
- Manage billing, invoicing, and customer collections.
- Perform budgeting and cash flow analysis.
- Process electronic payments utilizing ACH and NACHA files.
- Assist with insurance audits and compliance requirements.
- Ensure accuracy of financial records and internal controls.
- 5+ years of accounting experience with significant exposure to construction accounting and job costing.
- Experience managing the full accounting cycle independently.
- Strong understanding of residential construction, custom home building, remodeling, or development accounting.
- Experience working with external CPA firms.
- Knowledge of both cash-basis and accrual-basis accounting.
- Experience preparing financial statements and job cost reporting.
- Sage 300 experience strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
- Experience with ACH and NACHA electronic payment processing.
The position requires onsite work five days a week with flexibility for remote work as needed. Benefits include health insurance, two weeks of paid time off, and one week of sick pay. There is no 401k offered.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bethesda, MD.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $39.00 - $49.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
