Job Title: Phlebotomist
Job Description
The primary role of the phlebotomist is to assist in performing various duties, including troubleshooting, training, and providing workflow recommendations. The position requires experience in blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging, recording maintenance data, and updating patient information.
Responsibilities
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture or other specimen collection process.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Fully understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
- Ensure 100% accuracy of test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.
- Package specimens according to required temperature and procedures to maintain specimen integrity.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed.
Essential Skills

- 2 years of experience in phlebotomy minimum
- Customer service oriented
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (if required)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2-4 years of experience required
- Pediatric to Geriatric experience required
Work Environment
The work schedule is from 7 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday, in a Patient Service Center.
