Job Title: Environmental Technician


Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Environmental Technician responsible for the segregation and lab packing of chemicals or waste in accordance with guidelines, EPA, DOT regulations, and disposal site protocols. This role includes hazardous waste pickup at customer locations, performing chemical relocation, and laboratory decontamination. The technician will also respond to emergency incidents involving hazardous materials, perform risk analysis, and ensure proper cleanup and packaging procedures are followed.


Responsibilities

  • Segregation and lab packing of chemicals or waste in accordance with company guidelines, EPA, DOT regulations, and disposal site protocols.
  • Pour off/consolidation of flammable, combustible, corrosive, and toxic materials.
  • Hazardous waste pickup at customer locations.
  • Daily written field reports.
  • Deliveries and pickups of drums or various job-related supplies.
  • Loading trucks for the next day’s operations and restocking used PPE, kits, and equipment.
  • Chemical relocation and laboratory decontamination.
  • Responding to emergency incidents involving hazardous materials and performing risk analysis to determine boundaries/zones, proper personal protective equipment, mitigation, cleanup, and packaging per protocols.

Essential Skills

  • Driving and loading/unloading trucks.
  • Experience with chemical remediation and environmental science.
  • 1+ year driving a truck and working inside labs/hospitals.
  • Experience with pharmaceutical waste, bio-waste, light tubes, and mercury.
  • Proficiency in driving box trucks.
  • Lab packing and general labor.
  • OSHA 10 and OSHA 40 certifications.
  • HAZWOPER certification.
  • Experience in cleaning and working in hospital/laboratory settings.
  • Knowledge in chemistry, hazardous waste, and hazardous materials packing, labeling, disposal, and transportation.
  • Familiarity with DOT/EPA/OSHA/RCRA regulations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • OSHA 8-hour certification preferred.
  • Mechanically inclined and capable of maintaining lab equipment.
  • Ability to work 40-50 hours per week and be on call 24/7 for emergency spill response.
  • Ability to handle and move drums of at least 250/450 pounds (5 gal, 15 gal, 30 gal, and 55 gal).
  • Ability to stand for 8 hours per day and operate tools and equipment safely.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and reading.
  • Maintain a professional image.
  • Successful candidates must pass pre-employment drug testing, and DOT/medical physical before hire.

Work Environment

The work environment includes working in hospital labs and delivering to warehouses. The role requires responding to emergency incidents involving hazardous materials and working in various settings.
