Job Title: Systems Engineer Consultant
Job Description
We are seeking a Systems Engineer Consultant to work in a customer-facing role supporting SWS/Navy programs. This position focuses on the initial stages of the Systems Engineering V model, which includes requirements and definition. The successful candidate will be embedded in the customer environment and is expected to operate as a trusted technical partner.
Responsibilities
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable requirements, deliverables, and manage large-scale requirements sets across multiple programs.
- Author and refine Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and detailed system documentation.
- Support system decomposition, requirements traceability, and interface definition.
- Collaborate directly with Navy/DoD stakeholders and communicate effectively at both technical and customer levels.
- Own and drive complex technical issues to completion with minimal oversight.
Essential Skills
- Strong experience with requirements development and systems engineering lifecycle (V-Model).
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage high-volume, detail-heavy engineering workstreams.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust in customer environments.
- Active Secret Clearance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of relevant experience or 10+ years supporting SSBN operations or as a US Navy sailor.
- Experience supporting Navy programs (NAVSEA, SSP, DoD).
- Experience in weapon system integration or mission systems.
- Experience operating in customer-embedded or advisory roles.
- Familiarity with ICDs and interface-driven system design.
Work Environment
The role requires working directly within the customer's environment, engaging with stakeholders at various levels. The position demands a high degree of autonomy and the ability to navigate complex technical landscapes. Expect to work in a dynamic setting where trust and technical acumen are paramount.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Rockville, MD.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $65.00 - $75.00/hr.
