Job Title: General Laborer – Recycling Facility
Job Description
This role offers the opportunity to work as a general laborer in a recycling facility located in Auburn, Maine. You will handle metal materials, operate equipment such as forklifts and skid-steers, and support daily yard operations by loading and unloading materials. The position requires the ability to follow written plans, work instructions, and verbal direction, while also interacting professionally with members of the public who use the yard.
Responsibilities
- Work as a general laborer in a recycling facility handling metal materials and supporting daily yard operations.
- Operate equipment such as forklifts and skid-steers to move, load, and unload materials safely and efficiently.
- Use hand tools and power tools to perform general production, assembly, and construction-related tasks as needed.
- Read and interpret plans, work instructions, and other written documentation to complete tasks accurately.
- Follow verbal instructions from supervisors and team members to prioritize and complete work assignments.
- Assist with loading and unloading materials for customers and internal operations using appropriate equipment.
- Provide basic customer service to members of the public who come to use the yard, answering questions and directing them as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in the yard and around equipment.
- Adhere to all safety procedures, including the proper use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Collaborate with a small team to complete daily goals and support overall yard efficiency.
Essential Skills
- At least 1 year of industrial work experience in environments such as construction, manufacturing, or landscaping.
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
- Comfort working with and around heavy equipment and metal materials in an outdoor yard environment.
- Ability to read and understand plans, work instructions, and other written documentation.
- Ability to follow verbal instructions clearly and consistently.
- Basic customer service skills to interact professionally with members of the public using the yard.
- Physical ability to lift 50 pounds or more as part of daily tasks.
- Commitment to following safety procedures and using required PPE at all times.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Interest in learning to operate additional equipment such as forklifts, dozers, and other yard machinery.
- experience in production, assembly, construction, or general labor work.
- Experience operating forklifts or skid-steers is beneficial.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a small team in a fast-paced outdoor environment.

Work Environment
You will work in a recycling yard with a small team in an outdoor, year-round environment. The schedule runs from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You will work with metal materials and operate equipment such as forklifts and skid-steers, along with hand tools and power tools. The role requires wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, including a hard hat, steel-toed footwear, gloves, hearing protection, and vision protection, in line with safety standards for an industrial yard setting.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Auburn, ME.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
