This role supports a wide range of residential and commercial construction activities by performing general labor tasks, assisting skilled trades, and safely operating tools and equipment. The position is hands-on and physically active, requiring a strong focus on safety, reliability, and teamwork while contributing to various phases of construction projects.
Responsibilities- Perform general labor duties on job sites, including site preparation, cleanup, and material handling.
- Assist carpenters, equipment operators, and other skilled trades as needed throughout project phases.
- Measure, cut, and assemble materials in accordance with project specifications and instructions.
- Operate hand tools and power tools safely and correctly to support construction tasks.
- Load and unload construction materials, tools, and equipment efficiently and safely.
- Follow blueprints and drawings as directed to complete assigned tasks accurately.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment on all job sites.
- Adhere to all OSHA and company safety standards at all times.
- Support concrete work, framing, demolition, carpentry, and siding installation as required by the project.
- Work collaboratively with the project team, taking direction from supervisors and contributing to a positive job site culture.
- 2+ years of construction or skilled labor experience preferred.
- General labor experience in residential and commercial construction environments.
- Basic knowledge of construction methods, materials, and tools.
- Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
- Ability to read and follow blueprints and drawings under guidance.
- Experience supporting concrete work, framing, carpentry, and demolition.
- Strong attention to safety, detail, and quality of workmanship.
- Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented work style.
- Ability to take direction and work independently when needed.
- Physical ability to perform manual labor tasks in outdoor conditions.
- Experience with siding installation and framing is a plus.
- Comfort working on both residential and commercial construction projects.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain an organized work area and handle materials efficiently.
- Willingness to learn new construction techniques and support a variety of trades.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate tasks with supervisors and team members.

Work EnvironmentThis position is primarily outdoors on active residential and commercial construction sites. Work occurs in varying weather conditions and requires the ability to perform duties in rain or shine. The environment is fast-paced and hands-on, with regular use of hand tools, power tools, and construction materials. Safety standards are emphasized, and maintaining a clean, organized job site is expected.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, ME.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
