Job Description
The Emission Calibration Engineer for GPF systems is responsible for optimizing their performance to meet emissions regulations while ensuring drivability and durability. The focus is on developing and refining regeneration strategies for optimal particulate filtration and system efficiency, considering interactions with other emission control components.
Responsibilities
- Develop and refine regeneration strategies for GPF systems, including temperature, soot, and frequency adjustments.
- Optimize control strategies for various catalytic converters, including light-off temperature control and air-fuel ratio optimization.
- Ensure accurate oxygen sensor signals and integrate them into the engine control system for precise air-fuel ratio control.
- Develop and calibrate EGR systems to reduce NOx emissions while optimizing flow rates and cooler performance.
- Optimize VVT strategies to improve combustion efficiency and enhance performance across different engine speeds.
- Develop and calibrate SAI systems to accelerate catalyst light-off during cold starts.
- Calibrate the cooling system to ensure optimal operating temperatures for efficient combustion.
- Develop calibration strategies to compensate for variations in intake air temperature and humidity.
- Collaborate with fuel injection engineers to ensure precise fuel delivery and atomization.
- Optimize throttle response and airflow management for efficient combustion.
- Develop and validate OBD strategies to monitor the performance of all emission control systems.
Essential Skills
- Test equipment and emissions testing.
- Calibration of powertrain and aftertreatment systems.
- Conduct engine dynamometer and vehicle road tests for emissions compliance.
- Analyze complex data sets to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Utilize simulation tools to predict GPF performance.
- Troubleshoot issues related to GPF performance and emissions.
- Prepare clear and concise technical reports and documentation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including engine controls and emissions engineers.
Work Environment
The candidate will work onsite at the Chelsea proving grounds, coordinating with the team in Auburn Hills lab.
