Job Description
The Software Test Engineer analyzes software requirements, designs and executes detailed test cases, and develops automated test suites to ensure high-quality, reliable software at the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) level. This role focuses on L2 ECU-level testing, test automation, test bench development, and thorough defect analysis to support stable, high-performing software releases.
Responsibilities
- Analyze software requirements to define an effective test strategy and ensure comprehensive test coverage.
- Design, author, and review detailed L2 test cases in TestRail, covering Smoke, Sanity, Feature, Regression, and Stability testing.
- Configure and integrate a wide range of test tools, including test management systems, defect tracking systems, and measurement tools.
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust automated test suites and scripts, for example using Python and CAPL-based frameworks, and provide continuous feedback on component quality.
- Oversee and perform test execution for nightly engineering and release builds, ensuring comprehensive logging and monitoring of results.
- Build and maintain test harnesses and test benches to support hardware and development bench setups for ECU and BCM-related testing.
- Identify, report, and analyze test failures to accurately pinpoint defects and support timely resolution.
- Manage defect tracking and retesting activities, ensuring that fixes are properly verified and closed in a timely manner.
- Generate detailed test execution reports summarizing pass/fail rates, execution progress, and test coverage metrics for stakeholders.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) on test failures to distinguish between defects in the system under test, issues in the test environment, or problems within the test cases or scripts themselves.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to clarify requirements, discuss test results, and improve overall product quality.
- 5 years of proven experience in software testing, with a focus on L2 ECU-level testing.
- 3–5 years of hands-on software testing experience, including test planning, execution, and reporting.
- Demonstrated 3 years of experience with test automation framework development and script implementation.
- 3 years of software verification experience.
- 3 years of experience building test benches and test harnesses for hardware and development environments.
- Strong experience in test case design and review, including Smoke, Sanity, Feature, Regression, and Stability testing.
- Proficiency with test management tools such as TestRail for authoring and managing test cases.
- Experience with test automation using scripting languages and frameworks, for example Python and CAPL.
- Solid understanding of defect management, including defect tracking, retesting, and closure.
- Ability to perform detailed root cause analysis of test failures across system under test, test environment, and test scripts.
- Software test experience and test automation experience.
- Test case design experience.
- 1 year of experience working within an Agile framework.
- 2 years of experience using GitHub for version control and collaboration.
- Familiarity with ECU-level testing concepts and automotive or embedded software environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, especially in diagnosing complex test failures.
- Effective communication skills to document test results and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Attention to detail and a structured approach to testing and documentation.
This role operates in a technology-driven environment focused on software quality, ECU-level testing, and test automation. You will work extensively with test management tools such as TestRail, defect tracking systems, measurement tools, and automation frameworks using languages like Python and CAPL. The position involves building and working with test benches and test harnesses that integrate hardware and development equipment. The typical work schedule includes a Friday work-from-home arrangement, with the remainder of the week spent collaborating with engineering and verification teams in a professional office and lab setting.
