Job Description
This role focuses on leading the concept definition, design, and integration of advanced emissions systems for gasoline-powered internal combustion engines, hybrid electric vehicles, and plug-in hybrid applications. The Emissions Systems Engineer develops and implements hardware and software strategies to meet stringent regulatory emissions standards. The position serves as a technical lead, balancing cross-functional trade-offs across mechanical, electrical, and chemical domains to deliver optimized, durable propulsion systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead the concept definition, design, and integration of advanced emissions systems for gasoline-powered internal combustion engines, hybrid electric vehicles, and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
- Develop and implement hardware strategies to meet stringent emissions regulations
- Create and refine software strategies that support emissions control and compliance across multiple propulsion architectures.
- Serve as a technical lead for emissions systems, coordinating inputs from mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering disciplines.
- Balance cross-functional trade-offs between performance, durability, cost, and regulatory compliance to deliver optimized propulsion systems.
- Apply quality control principles to ensure emissions systems meet performance and reliability targets.
- Coordinate and manage emissions-related projects, including planning, tracking, and reporting progress to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate emissions systems into overall powertrain and vehicle architectures.
- Support system integration activities, including testing, validation, and troubleshooting of emissions systems.
- Contribute technical expertise in propulsion and emissions system engineering to support continuous improvement and innovation.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (BS engineering).
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in propulsion or emissions system engineering.
- Demonstrated experience with powertrain and engine systems.
- Strong project management skills, including planning, coordination, and execution of engineering projects.
- Knowledge of emissions systems for internal combustion engines, hybrid electric vehicles, and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
- Experience with system integration of mechanical, electrical, and chemical subsystems.
- Understanding of quality control principles as applied to engineering systems.
- Ability to develop and implement hardware and software strategies to meet emissions regulations such as SULEV20, SULEV15, and SULEV10.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working on gasoline-powered internal combustion engine emissions systems.
- Familiarity with hybrid and plug-in hybrid propulsion architectures.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in complex, multi-domain systems.
- Effective communication skills for presenting technical topics and project status to diverse stakeholders.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Dearborn, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $42.30 - $50.74/hr.
