Job Title: CNC Machinist $180 per diem, $30-$35/hr
Job Description
This position offers the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art precision CNC equipment in a clean, climate-controlled environment that supports both R&D and mass production for aerospace, military, and defense applications. As a CNC Machinist, you will use advanced 5-axis and multi-axis CNC milling machines to produce complex, high-precision components from challenging materials. You will join a growing, collaborative team where your machining expertise, attention to detail, and commitment to quality directly contribute to demanding industry standards and production goals.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain 5-axis CNC vertical milling machines to produce high-precision components.
- Perform complex blueprint interpretation to determine machining strategies, dimensions, and tolerances.
- Set up CNC machines, including tooling, workholding, offsets, and program loading for production and R&D work.
- Utilize Fanuc or Heidenhain machine controls to run programs, make adjustments, and optimize machining operations.
- Program or edit G-code and M-code at the machine to achieve desired machining outcomes and correct issues as needed.
- Apply knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) to ensure parts meet all dimensional and tolerance requirements.
- Machine a variety of materials, including alloys, stainless steel, titanium, and plastics, while maintaining tight tolerances and surface finish requirements.
- Monitor machining processes, inspect parts, and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency.
- Collaborate with team members across departments to meet production schedules and continuous improvement objectives.
- Follow all safety protocols, standard operating procedures, and quality standards throughout the machining process.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with facility and ITAR requirements.
- Support troubleshooting and problem-solving activities related to machining, setups, and tooling.
- Work overtime as needed to support production demands, typically around 10 additional hours per week.
Essential Skills
- 3–4 years of experience performing setups and operation on 3- or 4-axis CNC milling machinery (vertical and/or horizontal) for local machinist roles.
- Proficiency in setting up and operating CNC mills, including tooling selection, workholding, and offset adjustments.
- Ability to utilize Fanuc controls to perform setups and make edits to G-code and M-code at the machine.
- Strong ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and engineering drawings.
- Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and its application in machining and inspection.
- Experience working with metals and engineering materials such as alloys, stainless steel, titanium, and plastics.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain tight tolerances and high-quality standards in a production environment.
- Capability to work effectively on a 2nd shift schedule (4:30 p.m. – 2:30 a.m.) as needed.
- Commitment to following safety procedures and maintaining a clean, organized work area.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- 4 or more years of experience performing setups and/or operating 5-axis CNC milling machines, especially for traveling machinist roles.
- Experience machining titanium and other difficult-to-machine alloys.
- Familiarity with Makino T1/T4 and DMG Mori machining centers.
- Background in machining components for aerospace, military, defense, or closely related high-precision industries.
- Comfort working with Fanuc and Heidenhain controls for multi-axis machining.
- Experience in an ITAR-compliant environment or other regulated manufacturing setting.
- Ability to collaborate across departments and communicate clearly with engineers, programmers, and fellow machinists.
- Willingness to travel for work if engaged as a traveling machinist, with per diem support for travel days.
