Job Description
This role supports the design and production of advanced Unmanned Aerial Systems for military and defense applications by converting existing 3D models into detailed engineering drawings, incorporating redline changes, and organizing all documentation within a new Product Data Management (PDM) system. You will play a key role in establishing and maintaining part-numbering and configuration-management structures, building and updating Bills of Materials (BOMs), and ensuring all drawings meet engineering and manufacturing standards before release into the official document control system. This position offers the opportunity to gain aviation experience and contribute to a growing, highly collaborative engineering organization.
Responsibilities
- Convert existing 3D models into clear, accurate engineering drawings using SolidWorks.
- Incorporate redline changes and updates into drawings to reflect the latest design revisions.
- Organize and manage drawings, models, and related documentation within the Product Data Management (PDM) system.
- Establish and assign part numbers for components, assemblies, and subassemblies in alignment with company standards.
- Maintain consistency within the company’s part-numbering and configuration-management structure.
- Build and update Bills of Materials (BOMs) for assemblies and subassemblies, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Manage drawings through the internal review and approval process, tracking status and revisions as needed.
- Ensure all drawings meet engineering and manufacturing standards before formatting and releasing them into the official document control system.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, and configuration-management teams to refine drawing standards, part-numbering schemes, and documentation processes.
- Support the implementation and organization of the new Product Data Management (PDM) system linked to SolidWorks and accounting/finance software.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of documentation workflows as the organization grows.
- At least 2 years of hands-on SolidWorks experience creating and modifying models and drawings.
- Experience working with Product Data Management (PDM) systems for organizing and controlling engineering data.
- Ability to navigate and work within existing Bills of Materials (BOMs) and part-number schemes, even if not creating them from scratch.
- Familiarity with aviation or aerospace environments, including components and assemblies common to these industries.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in converting models to drawings and incorporating redline changes.
- Ability to follow and maintain configuration-management and document-control standards.
- Effective collaboration skills to work closely with engineers, configuration management, and production teams.
- Comfort working with a PDM system that interfaces with SolidWorks and accounting/finance software.
- Prior aviation industry experience, particularly with aircraft or aerospace components.
- Experience working with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).
- UAV flying experience or familiarity with UAV operations.
- Experience supporting small, growing engineering teams and adapting to evolving processes.
- Interest in gaining deeper experience in aviation and aerospace product development.
You will work on site in Howell as part of a small, close-knit engineering and production team focused on advanced Unmanned Aerial Systems. Standard hours are approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with some flexibility to accommodate personal needs and workload. Occasional weekend work may be required when approaching critical deadlines, but this is not typical. You will use SolidWorks and a Product Data Management (PDM) system integrated with accounting and finance software as your primary tools, working within a structured document-control and configuration-management framework while contributing to the growth and refinement of these processes in a small-company setting.
