This role focuses on preparing, configuring, and adjusting CNC machines to run production parts safely, efficiently, and accurately according to exact specifications and engineering prints. You will perform CNC set-ups on mills and lathes, complete first piece inspections, and ensure that tooling, programs, and machine offsets are correctly established to maintain consistent, high-quality output.
Responsibilities- Prepare and configure CNC mills and lathes for production runs according to prints and job specifications.
- Perform full CNC set-ups, including loading programs, setting tooling, establishing work holding, and adjusting part stops.
- Adjust tooling, work holding, and part stops to control stock removal and tool movements for optimal machining performance.
- Load CNC programs and navigate machine set-ups through Fanuc controllers to ensure proper operation.
- Set and adjust machine offsets to achieve accurate dimensions and maintain tight tolerances.
- Conduct first piece inspections to verify that parts meet specifications before releasing the job to production.
- Troubleshoot machine processing issues and collaborate with manufacturing engineering technicians or maintenance personnel when needed.
- Monitor machines during operation to ensure consistent quality and identify any issues requiring adjustment.
- Ensure backup tooling and supplies are available at each machine or in inventory to prevent downtime.
- Review each machine and work center to confirm required tools, personal protective equipment, process job book, Plex access, and raw materials are correct and available.
- Follow established processes and work instructions to maintain safety, quality, and productivity standards.
- Support efficient CNC operations by maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Hands-on experience with CNC machine set-up for production, including mills and lathes.
- Proficiency in loading CNC programs and navigating set-ups using Fanuc controllers.
- Ability to perform tool changes and adjust tooling, work holding, and part stops to control stock and tool movements.
- Experience setting and adjusting machine offsets to achieve accurate part dimensions.
- Knowledge of G&M code and CNC machine operation for milling and turning.
- Capability to perform first piece inspections and verify parts against blueprints and specifications.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for machine processing issues and willingness to work with engineering and maintenance personnel.
- Familiarity with CNC mills, CNC lathes, and general CNC milling machine operations.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and job documentation accurately.
- Attention to detail and commitment to safe and precise machining practices.
- Experience with Makino, Citizen, Murata, Fuji, or similar CNC equipment is a plus.
- Comfort working with Plex or similar manufacturing systems for process and job access.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
- Strong organizational skills to ensure tooling, materials, and documentation are properly staged and maintained.
- Good communication skills for coordinating with engineering, maintenance, and production teams.

Work EnvironmentThis position is based in an industrial machining environment that can be loud at times due to active production. The facility is well lit, providing good visibility for detailed work, though it is not climate controlled, so temperatures may vary with the seasons. You will work around CNC mills, lathes, and related equipment, following all required safety practices and using appropriate personal protective equipment.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Mount Clemens, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
