Job Description
The Controls Engineer will be responsible for the construction, integration, installation, programming, and continuous improvement of automated equipment required for the production of high-quality automotive parts. The role involves working in a highly automated manufacturing plant with over 50 robots, handling production-related tasks and designing automated solutions for external industrial clients.
Responsibilities
- Develop Electrical, Pneumatic, and Hydraulic Designs.
- Develop Machine Network Layouts and Designs, specifically Ethernet.
- Create Bill of Materials.
- Design, program, and debug PLC, HMI, and robot software.
- Wire machines and peripheral equipment.
- Assist with the positioning of power in relation to equipment.
- Analyze power requirements for specific machinery.
- Troubleshoot power issues and perform repairs.
- Pull wire and install power points throughout the plant.
- Collaborate with outside contractors to ensure the quality and function of electrical systems.
- Travel up to 20% for installation and controls debugging.
- Design and develop HMI screens for complex machinery to aid troubleshooting.
- Program complex robotic programs such as Fanuc iR Vision.
- Install, calibrate, operate, and program Fanuc robots.
- Develop work instructions for complex automated cells.
- Electrical Engineering degree with 2+ years experience in the automation/machine tool industry or 4+ years experience working in Controls/Automation.
- Proficient in programming PLCs.
- Experience in HMIs, Vision Systems, and VFDs.
- Experience programming and troubleshooting robots (ABB, Fanuc, or Yaskawa).
- Hands-on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Up to 20% travel for installation and debugging.
- Experience with AutoCAD and SolidWorks for 2D and 3D modeling.
- 2D and 3D CAD experience (SolidWorks and AutoCAD) is nice to have.
The Controls Engineer will report to the Director of Automation and work alongside two other Controls Engineers and an Automation Machine Builder. The position requires a shift of 7am with 45-50 hours per week. The company is renowned for its expertise in high-volume automated processes, primarily serving the automotive industry, including major OEMs like Toyota, Honda, and Volkswagen, as well as Tier 2 suppliers to GM. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Troy, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $43.27 - $50.49/hr.
