Job Title: Controls Applications Engineer


Job Description

This Controls Applications Engineer will be the "right hand man" to the Controls Engineer at this local material handling company, you will be a pivotal figure within the Controls Department. You will engage in project meetings with customers, develop project scopes, and act as a liaison between the engineering team and customers.


Responsibilities

  • Write code and program machines from the ground up using Allen Bradley PLCs.
  • Design schematics using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Perform HMI programming.
  • Participate in and contribute to project meetings with customers.
  • Develop project scopes and communicate effectively between the engineering team and customers.
  • Work collaboratively within the design and software teams, assisting both when necessary.
  • Consult with customers and assist the department manager.
  • Travel within the United States, primarily to Texas, the East Coast, and California, with 25% travel expected.
  • Log expenses and manage travel pay, including reimbursement during the contract period.

Essential Skills

  • PLC programming from scratch, specifically with Allen Bradley systems.
  • Controls hardware design using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Proficient in HMI programming.
  • Strong knowledge of control theory, instrumentation, and process control.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.

"Nice to have" Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Siemens and Schneider Electric PLCs is highly preferred.
  • Packaging automation experience is highly preferred.
  • Robotic programming skills, particularly with Fanuc, are desirable.
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in leadership or management roles is a plus.

Work Environment

The work environment is primarily based in the office and shop, with occasional travel within the US. The headquarters facility is modern and up-to-date, featuring large windows, collaboration stations, and a clean, temperature-controlled shop floor. While travel is in groups, employees are compensated for travel expenses and receive paid time off for extended travel periods. The company offers flexibility with work-from-home options, recognizing its importance but ensuring it is not abused. The facility is equipped with newer technology, providing a comfortable and fresh-air environment, especially during warmer months.
