Job Description
We are seeking a Software Innovation Lab Engineer to support an advanced technology integration and testing environment. This individual will be responsible for designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting lab-based integration and test systems. The engineer will play a key role in supporting hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) systems, simulation tools, and electro-mechanical test setups. This position requires strong hands-on technical skills, particularly in system integration, networking, and hardware/software troubleshooting. The ideal candidate thrives in a lab environment, enjoys solving complex system-level issues, and can effectively communicate across cross-functional engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Design, maintain, and troubleshoot lab-based integration and test systems.
- Support hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) systems, simulation tools, and electro-mechanical test setups.
- Work collaboratively across cross-functional engineering teams to solve complex system-level issues.
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting of hardware and software systems.
- Proficiency with Linux and Windows systems, including terminal usage, shell scripting, and PowerShell.
- Ability to interpret and analyze system logs using tools like Windows Event Viewer, syslog, and dmesg.
- Experience configuring serial communication links such as RS-232/422/485, CAN, and Ethernet.
- Hands-on circuit debugging using multimeters.
- Experience supporting and troubleshooting electro-mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) system integration and lab troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with NI TestStand for test development and execution.
- Experience with real-time simulation and HIL workflows.
- Knowledge of network protocol analysis tools like Wireshark and tcpdump.
- Basic C/C++ knowledge for test scripts or firmware modifications.
- Experience with CAN, LIN, MIL-STD-1553, and ARINC 429 protocols.
- Understanding of Ethernet standards and lab infrastructure, including rack servers, virtualization, and data storage.
This position is based in an advanced software integration and testing lab environment, offering hands-on, on-site work directly with hardware, test systems, and simulation equipment. The role involves collaboration with both on-site teams and remote engineering teams, providing an opportunity to work in a cutting-edge software integration lab supporting advanced systems. Employees will have exposure to HIL testing, simulation technologies, and real-time system validation. The environment is highly collaborative, offering technical visibility and impact.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sterling Heights, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.87 - $40.87/hr.
