Job Description
This role focuses on running long-run production on CNC Citizen Swiss machines in a small to mid-sized precision machining shop. You will primarily work with aluminum and occasionally with precious metals, loading material, operating the machines, and performing visual and dimensional inspections. You will work from blueprints on repeat jobs and help ensure that every part meets strict quality standards for aerospace and military-grade applications.
Responsibilities
- Run long-run production on CNC Citizen Swiss machines, ensuring consistent and efficient operation throughout each job.
- Load metal stock, including aluminum and precious metals, into the vise or appropriate workholding and operate the machine by initiating and monitoring the cycle.
- Visually inspect parts during and after machining using general quality equipment such as micrometers, pin gauges, and calipers to verify dimensions and quality.
- Work from blueprints and job travelers on repeat jobs to set up and run parts accurately and consistently.
- Use G and M codes, including G code programming or edits as needed, to ensure the machine produces parts to specification.
- Assist with basic machine setup tasks on CNC Swiss equipment, including tooling changes, offsets, and adjustments to maintain part quality.
- Operate within a machine shop environment using lathes, mills, and related tooling as required for production.
- Perform in-process inspection and final checks to ensure all parts meet customer and internal quality standards.
- Collaborate with team members, including deburring and assembly staff, to support smooth workflow and on-time delivery.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety and quality procedures while working on aerospace and military-grade components.
- At least 2 years of CNC Swiss operation experience.
- Hands-on experience operating CNC Citizen Swiss machines or similar CNC Swiss equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints for machining operations.
- Proficiency using inspection tools such as micrometers, pin gauges, and calipers.
- Experience working in a machine shop environment with machining processes and equipment.
- Familiarity with G and M codes, including G code usage in CNC machining.
- Ability to perform visual inspection and basic dimensional inspection of machined parts.
- Comfort working with aluminum and other metals, including precious metals.
- Basic understanding of CNC setup, including tooling and machine adjustments.
- Ability to follow documented processes and quality standards for aerospace or similar precision work.
- Technical degree in Machine Tool Technology or a related field.
- Experience with Fanuc controls on CNC equipment.
- Background in medical device or medical assembly machining environments.
- Experience with CNC lathe operations and general machining.
- Exposure to setting up machines, including tooling selection and fixture setup.
- Familiarity with inspection techniques and quality documentation.
- Interest in learning and expanding skills in machining and CNC operation.
- Ability to work on unique and complex parts, including government and military-grade projects.
You will join a smaller aerospace-focused shop that offers a close-knit, supportive environment where individuals can grow into a skilled trade. The organization invests in training, often developing entry-level deburrers and assemblers into machine operators, giving team members the opportunity to learn CNC machining and build long-term careers. The work includes unique, interesting projects for government and military-grade equipment, providing both variety and a sense of purpose. The culture emphasizes hands-on learning, professional development, and the chance to gain valuable experience on modern machining equipment.
Work Environment
The role is based in a small, wide-open machine shop equipped with newer Haas mills and Citizen Swiss machines, as well as an older horizontal Haas mill used for this position. The shop maintains a cleanliness level of approximately 7.5 out of 10, offering a tidy and organized environment while still reflecting an active production floor. You will work around CNC mills, Swiss machines, lathes, and general tooling, supporting aerospace and government projects that require precision and attention to detail. The setting supports hands-on, technical work with modern machining technologies in a collaborative and growth-oriented atmosphere.
