The Mechanical Designer produces detailed 3D models and drawings for parts, assemblies, sub-assemblies, and weldments while supporting custom projects through accurate documentation and collaboration across the organization. This role focuses on enclosure design, bill of materials creation, and engineering change management, ensuring all designs meet customer specifications, industry drafting standards, and internal quality requirements.
Responsibilities- Produce moderately complex drawings of parts, assemblies, sub-assemblies, and weldments with a limited degree of supervision.
- Generate 3D CAD models and detailed drawings for new and existing enclosure designs using SolidWorks.
- Prepare bills of materials, routing information, and other documentation for custom jobs within the company ERP system.
- Transform initial rough product designs and concepts from customers into complete and accurate working documents using CAD tools.
- Create approval drawings for customer review and incorporate feedback into final designs.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing engineering and technicians to optimize designs for manufacturability and efficiency.
- Work with cross-functional departments in the plant to ensure drawings and documentation convey accurate, complete, and error-free information.
- Partner directly with customer care to ensure customer product specifications are correctly interpreted and applied to customer work orders.
- Maintain CAD data and associated documentation within the designated data management system, ensuring version control and traceability.
- Process engineering change requests by updating all applicable documents to align with current company standards and practices.
- Adhere to and apply current industry drafting standards, including ASME Y14.5, when creating and revising detailed drawings.
- Analyze documentation to identify and correct missing or inconsistent information, ensuring all specifications are accurately presented.
- Review drawings and documentation prepared by other team members for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with standards.
- Apply basic mechanical fits, tolerances, GD&T principles, and tolerance stack-up analysis to new and existing products.
- Use common office software applications to support documentation, reporting, and communication related to design projects.
- Organize and plan workload effectively to complete assigned projects accurately and on schedule while working with minimal supervision.
- Two-year technical degree or equivalent technical education in a related field.
- Up to 5 years of drafting and design experience.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks, including 3D modeling and detailed drafting.
- Experience creating and managing bills of materials (BOMs).
- Ability to design and document sheet metal components and assemblies.
- Strong drafting skills with knowledge and application of industry drafting standards, including ASME Y14.5.
- Ability to use and apply basic mechanical fits, tolerances, GD&T principles, and tolerance stack-ups.
- Competence in using common office software applications for documentation and communication.
- Ability to work independently with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Effective workload organization and planning skills to meet project deadlines.
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with internal and external customers and suppliers.
- Knowledge of sheet metal design principles and best practices.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes relevant to mechanical and enclosure design.
- Experience working within an ERP system to prepare routes and job-related documentation.
- Experience maintaining CAD data in a structured data management system.
- Strong collaboration skills with manufacturing engineering, technicians, and customer care teams.
- Ability to review and validate documentation prepared by others for accuracy and consistency.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
