Job Title: Warehouse Sorter
Job Description
The Warehouse Sorter plays a hands-on role in the daily operation of a busy warehouse, focusing on lifting, moving, and sorting materials throughout the shift. This position handles paper and cardboard recycling, separates materials by grade, removes contaminants, and supports basic inventory-related administrative tasks as needed. The role requires consistent heavy lifting, frequent movement, and attention to detail in a fast-paced, quota-driven environment.
Responsibilities
- Lift, move, push, and pull equipment and materials for the majority of the workday.
- Empty collected paper and cardboard from containers and properly dump them in designated areas.
- Sort materials by grade, separating different types of paper and cardboard according to established standards.
- Identify and remove contaminants from sorted materials to maintain quality requirements.
- Pick up and handle heavy materials weighing between 70 lbs and 100 lbs on a regular basis.
- Push and pull wheeled containers weighing up to approximately 300 lbs as needed.
- Use material handling equipment and techniques to safely move products and boxes throughout the warehouse.
- Assist with unloading materials and products from trucks or other delivery vehicles.
- Perform picking tasks and use RF scanners when required to locate, identify, and track products.
- Support the plant manager with administrative inventory tasks when needed, such as basic counts or recording information.
- Work efficiently in a quota-based environment, striving to meet or exceed order selection and productivity goals.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and follow all safety guidelines and procedures.
Essential Skills
- At least 1 year of warehouse experience.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting on a consistent basis, including lifting 70–100 lbs regularly.
- Ability to push and pull wheeled containers weighing up to approximately 300 lbs.
- Capability to be on your feet and actively moving for the entire shift.
- Experience with general labor tasks in a warehouse or similar environment.
- Material handling experience, including moving, stacking, and organizing products and boxes.
- Ability to perform unloading tasks safely and efficiently.
- Comfort working in a physically demanding, quota-based environment.
- Reliability and strong work ethic to maintain productivity throughout the shift.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- 1+ year of heavy lifting work experience preferred.
- Experience with quota-based order selection is preferred.
- Experience with picking operations in a warehouse setting is an advantage.
- Familiarity with RF scanners for tracking and identifying products is beneficial.
- Comfort working with large racking systems and navigating warehouse aisles.
- Attention to detail when sorting materials and identifying contaminants.
- Willingness to assist with basic administrative inventory tasks when requested.

Work Environment
This is a full-time, first-shift role, working Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The position is based in a large warehouse environment that is not fully temperature controlled due to large garage doors that remain open during the day. Temperatures typically range from about 80–85 degrees in the summer to 60–65 degrees in the winter, with fans and heaters used to improve comfort where possible. The facility features large and tall racking and can be darker in many areas to reduce electricity usage. The atmosphere is generally quiet, and team members may listen to music while picking, as long as it does not interfere with safety or productivity. Dress is practical and appropriate for warehouse work, with an emphasis on safety and comfort suitable for a physically demanding role.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Bloomington, MN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr.
