Job Title: Yard Material Handler - 1st shift 6am-2:30pm M-F - $18-22/hr
Job Description
The Yard Material Handler safely operates an enclosed sit-down industrial forklift in a lumber yard environment to move, stage, and organize large building materials according to work orders. This role supports smooth yard operations by handling long-length wood and lumber, coordinating with other operators and production workers, and maintaining accurate inventory movement throughout the facility.
Responsibilities
- Operate an enclosed sit-down industrial forklift capable of lifting up to 10,000 lbs in a safe and efficient manner.
- Pick up, move, and stage lumber and building materials according to work orders and material handling instructions.
- Handle wood, lumber, and building materials ranging from 20 to 80 feet in length, ensuring secure and stable transport.
- Work closely with other forklift operators and production workers to move materials and customer orders throughout the facility.
- Load, unload, and reposition building materials in the yard to support daily production and shipping needs.
- Follow work orders and inventory movement procedures to ensure materials are placed in the correct locations.
- Assist with general material handling tasks, including picking, organizing, and consolidating materials as needed.
- Support accurate inventory control by moving and storing materials in alignment with established material handling systems.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area in and around the forklift operating zones.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines, yard rules, and equipment operating procedures while working outdoors year-round.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience operating industrial or heavy forklifts, including enclosed sit-down forklifts.
- Experience in lumber yard or large material handling environments.
- Ability to safely move and handle long-length materials, including wood, lumber, and building materials up to 80 feet in length.
- Experience working with work orders and material handling systems to move and stage inventory.
- Strong material handling skills, including loading, unloading, picking, and organizing building materials.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other operators and production workers in a busy yard environment.
- Commitment to following safety procedures and maintaining safe forklift operation at all times.
