Job Description
This role leads day-to-day industrial painting operations on structural steel using a high-pressure pot liquid painting machine. You ensure high-quality finishes by reading blueprints, following work procedures, and overseeing the full painting process from priming and undercoating to final top coat application. You also provide leadership on the floor, coordinate work according to schedules and specifications, and support a safe, efficient painting environment.
Responsibilities
- Operate a high-pressure pot liquid painting machine to apply primer, undercoating, and top coat finishes to structural steel components.
- Read and interpret blueprints and work procedures to ensure painted parts meet design, quality, and customer specifications.
- Mix paints accurately and match colors and finishes to customer requirements.
- Perform quality inspections on painted parts to confirm correct coverage, thickness, finish, and overall appearance.
- Use a computer to access and follow work procedures, blueprints, due dates, and special instructions for each job.
- Lead and guide painting activities on the floor, providing direction and support to team members as needed.
- Coordinate workflow at the painting station to meet production schedules and due dates.
- Use tape measures and basic measuring tools to verify dimensions and ensure accurate preparation and painting of parts.
- Operate and learn to use overhead lifting devices safely to move large structural steel components into and out of painting stations.
- Perform basic math functions to calculate paint quantities, mixing ratios, and other job-related measurements.
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of protective paint gear, respirators, and equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized painting area and ensure equipment is in good working condition.
- Support sandblasting and finishing processes as needed to prepare surfaces for painting.
- Communicate effectively with other departments to ensure proper sequencing of work and timely completion of orders.
- At least 6 months of liquid painting experience in an industrial or similar environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work instructions.
- Experience performing quality inspections on painted parts or finished products.
- Prior leadership experience in a production, industrial, or similar setting.
- Ability to navigate and use a computer to view procedures, drawings, due dates, and special instructions.
- Proficiency in reading a tape measure accurately.
- Comfort with learning and using overhead lifting devices safely.
- Ability to perform basic math functions, including measurements and simple calculations.
- Industrial painting skills, including priming, undercoating, and top coat finishing.
- Experience with liquid paint application and finishing processes.
- Industrial painting experience on structural steel or large fabricated components.
- Sandblasting experience or familiarity with surface preparation techniques.
- Management or supervisory skills, including coordinating tasks and guiding team members.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality finished products.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and adapt to special customer requirements.
- Comfort working in a large factory or plant environment with heavy equipment and overhead cranes.

Work Environment
The role is based on a large open factory or plant floor designed for structural steel fabrication and painting. The facility includes multiple welding stations, which can result in dimmer lighting in some areas, and large overhead cranes throughout the building to move heavy components. Each painting station is spacious to accommodate large products and is supported by good ventilation to manage paint fumes and ensure a safer working atmosphere. You use computers at the workstation to access procedures and drawings and work around industrial equipment, including overhead lifting devices. Protective paint gear, respirators, and appropriate work clothing are required and form part of the standard dress code for this environment.

This is a Contract position based out of LAKE CRYSTAL, MN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $26.00/hr.
