Job Description
The HVAC Technician diagnoses, repairs, maintains, and installs heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in both residential and commercial settings. This role ensures all work meets applicable codes and regulations, delivers clear communication and recommendations to customers, and maintains accurate service records and well-organized tools and vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC system issues in residential and commercial environments.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, boilers, and ventilation systems.
- Install HVAC systems and components as needed in residential and commercial properties.
- Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal codes and regulations.
- Communicate effectively with customers to explain identified issues, recommended solutions, and ongoing maintenance needs.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of work performed, parts used, and services provided.
- Respond to emergency service calls and perform after-hours work when required.
- Keep the company vehicle clean, organized, and stocked with necessary parts and tools.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition and report any repair or replacement needs promptly.
- Follow safety procedures and best practices while working on electrical and mechanical HVAC components.
- 5+ years of experience in residential and commercial HVAC service and installation.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, boilers, and ventilation systems.
- Proficiency in HVAC troubleshooting and diagnostics for both residential and commercial applications.
- Solid knowledge of electrical components related to HVAC systems.
- Mechanical aptitude for installing, repairing, and maintaining HVAC equipment.
- Experience performing preventive maintenance on a variety of HVAC systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical diagrams.
- EPA Section 608 Certification.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Attention to detail and commitment to code compliance and safety.
- HVAC certification or formal technical training is preferred.
- Experience working on both residential and commercial job sites.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions in the field.
- Ability to document work clearly and accurately for service records.
- Comfort working in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments and conditions.

Work Environment

The work includes hands-on tasks involving HVAC equipment, electrical components, and mechanical systems, using standard HVAC tools and diagnostic instruments. Technicians typically work full-time hours with the potential for after-hours and emergency service calls, requiring flexibility in scheduling. A professional appearance and appropriate work attire are expected while interacting with customers and representing the company on-site.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Ulm, MN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $45.00 - $50.00/hr.
