Sterilization Technician / Sterile Processing Technician
Job Description
The Sterilization Technician (Sterile Processing Technician) supports the operating room team by preparing, processing, and delivering sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies essential to safe surgical care. This role plays a critical part in infection prevention, ensuring that all surgical and medical instruments are properly cleaned, sterilized, tracked, and ready for use in a fast-paced hospital environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver medical and surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment needed for surgical procedures in a timely and accurate manner.
- Clean, decontaminate, and disinfect surgical equipment and instrumentation according to established protocols and infection prevention standards.
- Package, wrap, and assemble instrument sets and trays for sterilization, ensuring completeness and proper configuration for specific procedures.
- Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot power equipment used for instrument processing, including autoclaves, washer disinfectors, and ultrasonic cleaners.
- Manage and use multiple computer applications to assist with sterilization tracking, documentation, and workflow management.
- Maintain accurate inventory of surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment, and support proper storage, rotation, and restocking within the core area.
- Ensure that all processed instruments and supplies meet quality and sterility standards before distribution to the operating room and other clinical areas.
- Collaborate closely with operating room staff, nurses, and other clinical team members to support efficient case preparation and turnover.
- Follow all hospital policies, procedures, and safety guidelines related to sterile processing, infection control, and equipment handling.
- Identify and report equipment malfunctions, instrument damage, or supply shortages to appropriate personnel for timely resolution.
Essential Skills
- 2+yrs experience handling and sterilizing surgical, medical, or dental instrumentation within the past 4 years
- OR 2+yrs experience as a Central Service Technician or Patient Care Assistant in an acute care setting within the last 5 years
- OR a vocational certificate as a Central Service Technician or Patient Care Assistant obtained within the last 2 years
- CBSPD or CRCST Certification is required.

This is a Contract position based out of Rochester, MN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr.
