Job Description
This Clinical Laboratory Technician role supports a Central Clinical Laboratory and Clinical Specialty Laboratory that delivers a mix of highly automated and manual testing to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The laboratory performs millions of tests annually across general chemistry, immunoassay, coagulation, hematology, renal, and cardiovascular specialties, and contributes directly to emergency department and routine testing needs. The position offers hands-on experience with advanced analytical technologies and involvement in research activities related to new clinical test development and outcomes assessment, making it an excellent foundation for a long-term career in clinical laboratory science.
Responsibilities
- Perform clinical laboratory testing in areas such as general chemistry, immunoassay, coagulation, hematology, renal, and cardiovascular diagnostics to support patient care.
- Conduct both highly automated and manual laboratory tests, including lipid metabolism, cardiovascular risk testing, enzyme assays, and nutritional assays.
- Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation such as mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance, ELISA platforms, chromatography systems (ICS), flow cytometry, visible and fluorescence spectroscopy equipment, combustion systems, electrophoresis instruments, ultracentrifugation equipment, and automatic chemistry analyzers.
- Process and handle patient specimens accurately, ensuring proper labeling, preparation, and storage according to laboratory protocols.
- Follow established laboratory procedures and quality control standards to ensure accurate, reliable, and timely test results.
- Document test procedures, results, and instrument maintenance activities in accordance with laboratory and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with laboratory staff and other healthcare professionals to support efficient workflow and resolve testing or instrumentation issues.
- Participate in research studies related to the development of new clinical tests, evaluation of clinical utility, outcomes assessment, and appropriate test utilization.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area, adhering to all safety and compliance guidelines.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance test processes, instrumentation performance, and overall laboratory efficiency.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a human biological science is required (acceptable degrees include, but are not limited to, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience).
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rochester, MN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $24.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
