Job Description
The masker prepares and protects aerospace and defense metal parts before coating by carefully masking specific areas using tape, plugs, and other materials. This role requires precise work with both very small components and large structures, consistent attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while occasionally collaborating with another masker on larger parts.
Responsibilities
- Mask aerospace and defense metal parts using tape, plugs, and other masking materials to protect designated areas from coating.
- Work with parts ranging in size from approximately 1–2 inches (as small as a quarter) up to large components about 20 feet long.
- Use small hand tools safely and accurately to complete masking tasks on small and intricate parts.
- Perform detailed work on small parts while seated when appropriate to ensure comfort and precision.
- Partner with another masker to mask larger parts when required, coordinating workflow and sharing tasks effectively.
- Assist with racking parts as needed to prepare them for coating or further processing.
- Follow paint preparation procedures to ensure parts are properly masked and ready for painting or coating operations.
- Maintain a high level of attention to detail to ensure all required areas are correctly masked and protected.
- Work independently with minimal supervision, managing time and tasks to meet production schedules.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers, and interact professionally with visitors, customers, and vendors as needed.
- Adhere to all safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures in an industrial and production environment.
Essential Skills
- At least 6 months of manufacturing experience.
- At least 6 months of experience working with small tools or small objects, such as in small part assembly, medical assembly, or similar work.
- Demonstrated ability to work with small hand tools in a precise and controlled manner.
- Strong attention to detail when working with both small and large parts.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds as part of daily tasks.
- Ability to bend and access parts stored in low and high shelving units or bins, including using a ladder when necessary.
- Self-motivated, able to start tasks independently and work effectively without close supervision.
- Good and effective communication skills to interact with employees, customers, vendors, and visitors.
- Capability to work in a general production, industrial, or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to perform close work requiring specific vision abilities, including close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in general labor, production, or general manufacturing environments.
- Experience in masking, taping, or paint preparation for industrial or aerospace parts.
- Experience with small part assembly or similar detailed work.
- Familiarity with painting or coating processes in an industrial setting.
- Ability to maintain a stable work history with limited job changes over recent years.
- Comfort working around visitors and engaging in regular verbal communication as part of daily activities.

Work Environment
You work in a clean, well-lit, and climate-controlled production environment focused on aerospace and industrial parts. The role involves standing, sitting, bending, lifting up to 35 pounds, and occasionally using ladders to access parts stored in higher or lower shelving units or bins. You interact regularly with coworkers and visitors, so you need to talk and hear clearly as part of normal job duties. The work requires strong visual acuity, including close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The standard schedule is a first shift, Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional overtime on Fridays from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The shift includes two 10-minute breaks and one 30-minute lunch, providing structured time for rest during the workday.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr.
