Job Description
This entry-level Mechanical Engineer role focuses on mechanical design and applications engineering for equipment that interfaces with OEM chassis. You will create detailed drawings, schematics, and bills of materials, support production, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, manufacturable solutions that meet customer requirements. Responsibilities
- Perform applications engineering work, including creating detailed drawings, schematics, weight studies, bills of materials, and other technical documentation to support product design and manufacturing.
- Create electrical and hydraulic schematics to interface in-house built equipment with OEM-supplied chassis, ensuring proper integration and functionality.
- Analyze customer technical requirements and coordinate with internal departments and units to determine the most appropriate technical and design solutions.
- Present design solutions and technical recommendations to customers in a clear and professional manner.
- Communicate customer requirements effectively to internal teams and troubleshoot issues as they arise during design, production, or implementation.
- Provide product support, leveraging other technical personnel as needed to resolve issues and maintain product quality.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product design, documentation, and manufacturing processes.
- Work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are optimized for production and support design-for-production principles.
- Manage and maintain accurate bills of materials to support procurement, manufacturing, and lifecycle management.
- Collaborate in a team-based environment, contributing positively to a tight-knit engineering group and supporting shared goals.
- Work independently on assigned tasks, demonstrating reliability, professionalism, and the ability to complete work with minimal supervision.
- Serve as a professional point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, representing the engineering function with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Mechanical design experience, including exposure to design-for-production principles.
- Experience working with bills of materials in an engineering or manufacturing context.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software, such as SolidWorks or a similar 3D modeling program.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD for creating and editing technical drawings and schematics.
- Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and its application in mechanical drawings.
- Proficiency with MS Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong Excel skills, including working with data and technical information.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment and collaborate with cross-functional groups.
- Strong communication skills to work with suppliers, internal teams, and customers.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, managing daily tasks and responsibilities reliably.
- Professionalism, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility in day-to-day work.
- Entry-level candidates with internship experience involving bills of materials or 3D CAD software are encouraged to apply.
- Experience using TeamCenter for product data management.
- Experience with Oracle and Active Workspace in an engineering or manufacturing setting.
- Prior exposure to a manufacturing environment or production floor activities.
- Comfort working in a tight-knit team and building positive relationships with colleagues.

The role is based in a typical manufacturing environment where you will spend the majority of your time on the manufacturing floor, including hands-on activities such as scanning and interacting with production processes. You will work closely with a small team, typically as part of a two-person group, and are expected to manage your time and tasks with very minimal supervision while consistently showing up on time and meeting commitments. The broader engineering group includes many professionals with 2–5 years of experience, creating a collaborative environment that is supportive of early-career engineers. The dress code is casual and practical for the manufacturing setting, with jeans and a polo commonly worn. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., providing a stable daytime schedule.

This is a Contract position based out of Saint Joseph, MO.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $31.00/hr.
