Job Description
The Construction Surveyor supports field operations by performing precise construction layout, data collection, and verification for a variety of projects. This primarily field-based role ensures the accuracy and quality of work on heavy civil, roadway, municipal, private, and utility projects, contributing directly to safe and successful project delivery.
Responsibilities
- Perform construction layout for municipal, private, roadway, and utility projects to ensure accurate placement of structures and infrastructure.
- Conduct topographical and utility surveys to support design, planning, and construction activities.
- Operate Trimble robotic, GNSS, and conventional survey equipment to collect accurate field data.
- Collect, manage, and organize field data using survey software to maintain reliable project records.
- Import and process daily field data for the project team, ensuring information is current and usable for project decisions.
- Maintain clear, accurate, and professional field notes that document survey activities, conditions, and findings.
- Support field teams with layout verification, checking grades, offsets, and alignments to confirm work meets design specifications.
- Troubleshoot layout and survey issues in the field and collaborate with project teams to resolve discrepancies.
- Work safely in varying site and weather conditions, following established safety procedures and practices.
- Assist with additional duties as needed to support overall project execution and team success.
- Minimum of 3+ years of field layout and surveying experience, preferably in construction.
- Experience performing construction layout in heavy civil, roadway, or utility work environments.
- Ability to read and interpret construction and roadway plans, including alignments, grades, and details.
- Proficiency with Trimble equipment, including robotic total stations and GNSS systems.
- Proficiency with data collection software used in surveying applications.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, and/or Trimble Business Center.
- Strong understanding of elevations, offsets, and core survey principles.
- Solid communication skills to coordinate effectively with field crews and project teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills to address field layout and survey challenges.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Background in land surveying, construction surveying, or topographic surveying.
- Experience with ALTA, land survey, or topography-related work.
- Familiarity with civil design tools such as Civil 3D.
- Interest in building a long-term career in construction and infrastructure projects.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to established jobsite safety practices.
- Motivation to contribute to projects that improve communities and infrastructure.
This role is primarily field-based and involves working on interstates, municipal projects, and water treatment facilities within the St. Louis area. The position requires regular work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including heat and inclement weather. You will work alongside experienced construction and survey crews who prioritize safety, teamwork, and quality craftsmanship. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $105000.00/yr.
