Job Description
The Clinical Pharmacist provides comprehensive clinical oversight and ensures the safe, accurate dispensing of prescriptions for an assigned patient care team. This role manages designated pharmacy staff, delivers high-quality clinical support and counseling to patients, and ensures all activities comply with state, federal, and board of pharmacy regulations. The Clinical Pharmacist serves as a primary point of contact for new referrals, supports evidence-based treatment plans, and delivers exceptional service to patients and clinicians in a hybrid work setting.
Responsibilities
- Provide oversight and safety for all daily operations of the assigned patient care team.
- Manage and support assigned pharmacy staff to ensure efficient and compliant workflow.
- Serve as the primary intake contact for all new team referrals initiated by telephone.
- Conduct comprehensive clinical reviews of pharmacotherapy for each patient, including drug utilization evaluation, compliance assessment, drug interaction screening, and side effect profiling.
- Provide drug administration support and guidance to ensure patient treatment plans align with evidence-based clinical standards.
- Deliver clear, empathetic counseling to patients regarding their medications, therapy regimens, and potential side effects.
- Offer clinical support and consultation to patients and clinicians to optimize therapeutic outcomes.
- Ensure that all prescriptions are dispensed accurately and in full compliance with state, federal, and board of pharmacy laws and regulations.
- Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with patients and clinicians to foster trust and engagement in care.
- Demonstrate a commitment to exceptional customer service in accordance with internal service standards.
- Handle a high volume of inbound and outbound calls, potentially up to 30 calls per day, while maintaining quality and accuracy.
- Document clinical interventions, counseling, and communications in appropriate systems in a timely and accurate manner.
- Use computer systems and pharmacy software efficiently to support order entry, verification, documentation, and communication.
- Collaborate with the broader care team to resolve medication-related issues and support continuity of care.
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree.
- 2–3 years of experience in counseling and direct patient care.
- Strong clinical pharmacy knowledge, including pharmacotherapy review and evidence-based practice.
- Proficiency in conducting drug utilization reviews, drug interaction screening, and side effect profiling.
- Demonstrated experience providing medication counseling and education to patients.
- Ability to manage and oversee daily operations for an assigned patient care team.
- Strong telephone-based customer service skills and comfort handling high call volumes (up to 30 calls per day).
- Excellent multitasking abilities in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment.
- Computer savvy with the ability to quickly learn and effectively use pharmacy and clinical information systems.
- Clear, professional verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience building and maintaining collaborative relationships with patients and clinicians.
- Demonstrated commitment to delivering exceptional, patient-centered customer service.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in clinical documentation and prescription processing.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary care team.
- Comfort working in a hybrid environment with both in-office and remote responsibilities.
- Residence within approximately one hour of the office to support onsite training and hybrid work requirements.
This position follows a hybrid schedule, generally working from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with two days per week in the office and three days working from home. Initial training takes place onsite for approximately 3–4 weeks, so the Clinical Pharmacist should live within about an hour of the office. The role involves significant telephone-based interaction, with call volume potentially reaching up to 30 calls per day, requiring comfort with frequent patient and clinician communication. The work environment is technology-driven, relying on computer systems and pharmacy software, and requires strong comfort with working on a computer throughout the day. The setting emphasizes collaborative, patient-centered care, high-quality clinical service, and a culture of exceptional customer service.

This is a Contract position based out of Cary, NC.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $60.00 - $60.00/hr.
