Description
The R&D Chemist is tasked with formulating innovative products for our client, focusing on various chemistries and market segments within the Graphic Arts industry. This includes UV and aqueous inks, coatings, adhesives, and fountain solutions for lithographic inks. The role involves developing new products and providing technical support to customers, as well as to the Sales and Quality departments.
Job Functions:
Formulation: Develop new products based on customer, company, and market needs.
Record Maintenance: Organize and maintain product development records and data files.
Technical Integration: Assist in transitioning formulations from lab bench to pilot scale and commercial production.
Lab Work: Conduct lab bench work for formulating and testing products.
Analytical Skills: Utilize available analytical and physical testing equipment for product development, troubleshooting, and investigating customer claims.
Equipment Procurement: Recommend new equipment necessary for project completion.
Communication: Effectively communicate product needs and opportunities with third parties.
Intellectual Property: Secure intellectual property through patent applications and safeguarding trade secrets.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work as part of cross-functional teams within an international division.
Technology Utilization: Use existing and emerging technologies to design value-added products that drive business growth.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: BS degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related science.
Experience: 5+ years in Coatings and/or Ink R&D, ideally within the Graphic Arts industry.
Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to differentiate color nuances.
Formulation Experience: Hands-on experience with UV-curable and water-based inks, coatings, and adhesives.
Industry Knowledge: Previous experience in the graphic arts industry and various printing applications.
Acrylate Chemistry: Knowledge of photoinitiators, resin-monomer systems, additives, aqueous resin solutions, and acrylic emulsion polymers. Knowledge of fountain solution formulation is a plus.
