Test Technician
Job Description
This role focuses on testing, troubleshooting, and validating electrical and electronic systems using schematics, drawings, and test equipment. The Test Technician reads and interprets complex electrical documentation, identifies and corrects wiring or drawing errors, and ensures that all work complies with applicable electrical standards and safety regulations. The position requires strong electrical and mechanical aptitude, a thorough understanding of electrical schematics, and the ability to maintain both quality and efficiency throughout the testing process.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, NFPA and IEC drawings, and other technical documentation to support testing and troubleshooting activities.
- Identify wiring or drawing errors and take appropriate corrective actions to ensure systems meet design and safety requirements.
- Work with various styles of wire labels, device tags, and equipment to ensure accurate identification and organization of components.
- Identify wire gauges, ampacities, and their appropriate uses in accordance with electrical standards and best practices.
- Use test equipment, hand tools, and meters to perform electrical and electronic testing, calibration, and troubleshooting.
- Perform mechanical and electrical assembly tasks as needed to support testing and system validation.
- Follow work instructions and conduct all tasks in accordance with applicable health, safety, quality, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain high levels of quality while continuously increasing testing speed and efficiency throughout the testing process.
- Continuously evaluate and improve testing techniques and personal methods to enhance performance and reliability.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UL508A and UL1008 practices and apply this knowledge to daily work and testing procedures.
- Train others on testing procedures, equipment use, and best practices as needed.
- Document findings, test results, and conclusions clearly and accurately, and explain how and why specific conclusions were reached.
- Prioritize tasks effectively and work with limited supervision while meeting changing schedules and demands.
- Work well under pressure and remain flexible as priorities and project requirements evolve.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and drawings, including NFPA and IEC drawings.
- Strong knowledge of electrical standards and practices.
- Ability to read and identify colors on all wires accurately.
- Proficiency in working with hand tools and electrical test meters.
- Demonstrated electrical and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to identify wiring errors and drawing discrepancies.
- Proficiency in working with different styles of wire labels, device tags, and equipment identifiers.
- Ability to identify wire gauges, ampacities, and their appropriate applications.
- Proficiency in using test equipment for troubleshooting, calibration, and verification.
- Thorough understanding of all types of electrical schematics.
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members.
- Good written and verbal communication skills for documenting and explaining conclusions.
- Proven organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to prioritize work and perform effectively with limited supervision.
- Ability to explain how and why specific technical conclusions were reached.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with UL508A and UL1008 practices and their application in electrical systems.
- Experience in troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and electronic systems.
- Familiarity with blueprint reading and wiring practices.
- Experience with calibration and use of various test equipment.
- Soldering and electronic assembly experience.
- Ability to follow detailed work instructions accurately.
- Capability and interest in training others on processes and equipment.
- Continuous improvement mindset focused on refining testing techniques and methods.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlotte, NC.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
