Job Title: Site Civil Engineer II
Job Description
The Site Civil Engineer II leads and delivers complex civil engineering projects from concept through completion, serving as both a technical expert and project manager. This role oversees the design and production of site civil plans, coordinates multidisciplinary teams, and ensures high-quality, compliant deliverables for a wide variety of land development and infrastructure projects. The position offers the opportunity to shape standards, mentor other engineers, contribute to business growth, and work on impactful, human-centered, and sustainable projects across the nation.
Responsibilities
- Serve as project manager for civil engineering projects, working closely with project managers and leading other engineers to complete plan design and production.
- Plan, execute, and manage multiple civil engineering projects from start-up to completion, maintaining alignment with scope, schedule, and budget.
- Lead project teams by assigning duties, providing direction, and monitoring overall project progress to ensure timely and high-quality deliverables.
- Complete civil engineering design projects, including preparation of design documents and permits for site plans, utility plans and profiles, road design, grading plans, and right-of-way plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D software.
- Establish standards for the technical design content of documentation in all phases of the design process, ensuring consistency and quality across projects.
- Coordinate design efforts with other disciplines and external consultants to achieve integrated, coherent, and constructible solutions.
- Implement and oversee internal quality assurance through robust quality control measures, ensuring conformance to applicable codes, standards, and best practices.
- Develop reports, preliminary design concepts, and full design-phase deliverables, including drawings, specifications, cost estimates, quantity take-offs, technical reports, narratives, and permit applications.
- Prepare or assist in the preparation of engineering calculations and analyses for stormwater management systems, sanitary sewer systems, water supply and distribution networks, roadways, and traffic signal design.
- Participate in field investigations to diagnose existing conditions or issues, gathering data to inform design decisions and problem-solving.
- Perform field inspection services to verify conformance to plans and specifications, and prepare clear, detailed follow-up reports documenting findings and recommendations.
- Attend public meetings when required to present project information, respond to questions, and support stakeholder engagement.
- Consult with regulatory agencies as necessary to obtain permits, address regulatory requirements, and maintain compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Use design software and technology, including AutoCAD Civil 3D, EPANET, MicroStation, and other emerging tools, for design development, presentation, and production purposes.
- Prepare engineering proposals and provide input on anticipated project complexity, budgets, and hours required to complete the work, supporting business development efforts.
- Contribute to the growth of the business by providing leadership, mentoring other civil engineers, and promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an EAC/ABET-accredited program or equivalent education and experience required for professional licensure.
- Minimum of 10 years of professional civil engineering experience with a wide variety of project types, including experience working with zoning boards and planning commissions.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with a current license.
- Multiple state professional engineering licensures.
- NCEES registration.
- NSPE membership.
- Strong knowledge and hands-on proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D for site civil and land development design.
- Proficiency in civil engineering design for site development, grading, stormwater management, utility design, roadways, and related infrastructure.
- Experience managing civil engineering projects, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and leading project teams.
- Ability to establish and apply standards for technical design content and documentation throughout all phases of the design process.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating with other engineering disciplines and external consultants.
- Experience implementing quality assurance and quality control measures on design projects.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Valid driver's license.
- Experience using design and analysis tools such as HEC-RAS, EPANET (water distribution), MicroStation, or SYNCRO.
- Ability to prepare and review engineering proposals, including estimating project complexity, budgets, and required hours.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- CSI-CDT (Construction Documents Technologist) certification.
- LEED AP BD+C certification, demonstrating expertise in sustainable building design and construction.
- WELL AP certification, indicating knowledge of health and wellness-focused design.
- Experience with stormwater management design, grading, and utility design for site development projects.
- Familiarity with EPANET for water distribution modeling and MicroStation for design and drafting.
- Experience with traffic signal design and roadway design.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project for project scheduling and management.
- Experience using SharePoint and Microsoft Teams for collaboration and document management.
- Background in land development, civil site design, and site planning.
- Ability to participate effectively in public meetings and interact with regulatory agencies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for reports, narratives, and technical documentation.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, including mentoring junior engineers and contributing to business growth.
- Commitment to human-centered, sustainable, and inclusive design practices.
- Understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion as essential elements of innovative design.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00/hr.
