Job Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain training programs to keep personnel current on inspection methods, test methods, and quality standards.
- Participate in safety programs and actively uphold a strong safety culture throughout daily activities.
- Communicate effectively with production and other teams regarding potential production issues, quality concerns, and resource needs.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and actively participate in improving existing processes and procedures.
- Participate in plant 5S initiatives and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Perform in‑process and final inspections of bridge components and other products to verify compliance with specifications and requirements.
- Conduct periodic inspections on processes and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance with quality standards and documented requirements.
- Interpret drawings and project documents and make accurate assessments of product compliance.
- Assist in the creation, implementation, and improvement of the quality management system, including its various elements.
- Create, maintain, and audit procedures and work instructions to ensure they remain accurate, effective, and compliant.
- Plan, conduct, and manage quality assurance audits, including internal audits, to verify adherence to standards and procedures.
- Manage monitoring and measuring devices, including their proper use, control, and calibration status.
- Perform quality checks, tests, and inspections, including those related to concrete work, such as concrete mixing, pouring, finishing, and testing, where applicable.
- Support document control activities to ensure quality records, procedures, and work instructions are properly maintained and accessible.
- Apply quality standards and quality improvement practices in daily work to enhance product reliability and consistency.
- Use basic arithmetic, including working with fractions and decimals, as well as metric and imperial (U.S. standard) measurements, during inspection and testing.
- Collaborate as a team player in a fast‑paced, continually changing production environment to resolve issues and maintain product flow.
- Make objective, fact‑based decisions related to product compliance and assertively enforce adherence to quality requirements.
- Perform other quality‑related tasks and duties as assigned to support production and organizational goals.
Essential Skills
- At least 3 years of experience in metal fabrication, inspection, and testing.
- Ability to attain AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification within 6 months of employment.
- Ability to read, handwrite, and type in English at a level consistent with a high school education.
- Proficiency in reading and comprehending complex instructions, work orders, drawings, and project documents.
- Demonstrated proficiency in basic arithmetic, including working with fractions and decimals.
- Ability to accurately use measuring devices and interpret metric and imperial (U.S. standard) measurements.
- Strong visual acuity, with or without corrective lenses, sufficient for detailed inspection work.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as part of routine job duties.
- Ability to work overtime as necessary outside the normally scheduled shift, including weekends and holidays, often with little or no advance notice.
- Ability to work as an objective decision maker and be assertive in ensuring compliance with quality standards.
- Detail‑oriented approach with strong attention to accuracy and completeness.
- Solid math, analytical, and problem‑solving skills applicable to quality and inspection tasks.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member in a fast‑paced, continually changing environment.
- Comfort working in environments with exposure to extremes in temperature.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
