Job Description
This role oversees the installation of plumbing systems on a large, ground-up elementary school construction project in Mooresville, NC. You will lead on-site plumbing activities, interpret blueprints, and direct plumbing installation work for a team of full-time plumbers while ensuring all systems meet code, quality, and safety standards. The position is hands-on, requiring both leadership and advanced commercial plumbing skills with a variety of piping materials and systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the installation portion of commercial plumbing piping systems on a large elementary school construction project.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and isometric drawings to plan and lay out plumbing work accurately for the installation crew.
- Coordinate daily tasks and provide clear direction to on-site plumbers to ensure efficient and high-quality installations.
- Install, assemble, and repair piping systems, fixtures, valves, and related equipment in accordance with project specifications and applicable codes.
- Work with multiple piping materials, including copper, PVC, cast iron, PEX, CPVC, black iron, and no-hub systems, ensuring proper fittings and joining methods are used.
- Perform and oversee various pipe joining methods such as soldering, brazing, threading, grooving, solvent welding, and press systems (including ProPress, Viega, and Ridgid).
- Lay out and execute underground and rough-in installations, including coordination of trenching, hangers, and support systems.
- Install and set commercial fixtures and equipment, including water heaters, backflow preventers, pumps, grease traps, RTU tie-ins, and specialty commercial equipment.
- Ensure all plumbing work complies with local, state, and national plumbing codes and project requirements.
- Coordinate effectively with other trades on site, including HVAC, electrical, sprinkler, and general contractors, to maintain smooth workflow and resolve conflicts.
- Troubleshoot and resolve plumbing system issues efficiently, identifying root causes and implementing durable solutions.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and trade-specific equipment such as threaders, pipe cutters, and levels safely and effectively.
- Apply safe rigging and material handling practices when moving and installing large piping and equipment.
- Perform general construction cleanup and related tasks as needed to maintain a safe and organized work site.
- Follow all site safety procedures and contribute to a culture of safety on the construction project.
- Minimum 3–7+ years of commercial plumbing experience in new construction, renovations, or large-scale projects such as healthcare facilities, industrial sites, data centers, or multi-story buildings.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and isometric drawings for accurate plumbing layout and installation.
- Strong knowledge of commercial plumbing systems, including domestic water systems using copper, PEX, and CPVC.
- Strong knowledge of sanitary and storm systems using PVC, cast iron, and no-hub piping.
- Experience with gas piping systems, including black iron and CSST where applicable.
- Proven ability to install, assemble, and repair piping systems, fixtures, valves, and equipment to meet project specifications and code requirements.
- Skill in pipe joining methods, including soldering, brazing, threading, grooving, solvent welding, and press systems such as ProPress, Viega, and Ridgid.
- Ability to work with a wide range of pipe materials and sizes, from small-diameter systems to large commercial mains.
- Strong working knowledge of local, state, and national plumbing codes and the ability to ensure all work is compliant.
- Experience with underground and rough-in installations, including layout, trenching coordination, and installation of hangers and support systems.
- Capability to install and set commercial fixtures and equipment such as water heaters, backflow preventers, pumps, grease traps, RTU tie-ins, and specialty equipment.
- Experience working in active construction environments and coordinating with other trades on site.
- Ability to independently lay out jobs and also take direction from foremen, supervisors, or project managers as needed.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for identifying and resolving plumbing system issues.
- Proficiency with basic hand tools, power tools, and trade-specific equipment including threaders, pipe cutters, and levels.
- Understanding of safe rigging and material handling practices for moving large piping and equipment.
- Current OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 safety certification.
- Demonstrated leadership ability in guiding and supporting plumbing crews on commercial construction projects.
- Comfort working with copper, PVC, cast iron, and associated fittings in a variety of applications.
- Experience with rough-in plumbing, fixture installation, and final trim on commercial projects.
- Familiarity with Uponor systems and commercial plumbing fixtures is beneficial.
- Ability to maintain a high level of organization and attention to detail in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Strong communication skills for coordinating with team members, supervisors, and other trades.

Work Environment
The role is based on an open-air commercial construction site for a new elementary school that is currently coming out of the ground and is not yet occupied. Work takes place in a field-based, active construction environment with coordination among multiple trades. You will regularly handle and install copper, PVC, cast iron, and other piping systems using standard plumbing tools, power tools, and trade-specific equipment such as threaders, pipe cutters, and levels. The setting requires adherence to construction safety practices, including use of appropriate personal protective equipment and compliance with OSHA guidelines. Work hours follow typical commercial construction schedules, with tasks performed outdoors and indoors as the building progresses, in an environment that can involve varying weather conditions, noise, and physical activity such as lifting, climbing, and standing for extended periods.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
