Job Description
We are seeking dedicated Medical Assistants to join our team and assist in delivering exceptional patient care within our specialty practice. This role involves a mix of clinical and administrative duties, providing comprehensive support during Mohs micrographic surgery and other medical procedures.
Responsibilities
- Prepare exam and procedure rooms for Mohs micrographic surgery and other surgical and medical visits, ensuring proper setup of procedural instruments and efficient clinic flow.
- Assist the Mohs surgeon during all stages of the procedure, including preoperative care, tissue preparation, hemostasis, wound closure, and postoperative care.
- Perform patient intake, including obtaining medical history, reviewing consent forms, obtaining surgical photographs, and addressing preprocedure concerns.
- Provide wound care instructions and educate patients on post-procedure expectations.
- Process and handle tissue specimens for pathology evaluation according to protocol.
- Ensure proper documentation of procedures, medications, MIPS and follow-up instructions in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Schedule pre- and post-operative appointments and assist with patient inquiries.
- Confirm patient insurance coverage and obtain prior authorizations if required.
- Accurately complete patient charting and documentation.
- Act as liaison between physician and patient to deliver pathology results and complete communication documentation according to protocol.
- Record required information in compliance logs (pathology, biopsy, laboratory, temperature).
- Adhere to and maintain compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control standards. Complete mandatory compliance training.
- May be required to cross-train in the Mohs laboratory to fulfill histotechnology components to the extent allowed by state-specific CLIA requirements.
- May be required to cross-train in General and Cosmetic Dermatology.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- Experience in medical assisting and patient care.
- Proficiency in medical terminology and dermatology.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as NextGen and EMA.
- 1-2 years of recent experience in a dermatology or surgical setting preferred.
- MA Certification preferred.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Ability to work efficiently within a specialty practice.
- Experience in utilizing two different EMR systems.
Work Environment
The work environment requires wearing solid color scrubs—any color is acceptable. The workday generally includes a 1-hour break around lunchtime, depending on the clinic's flow. You will be working at a provider's location.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portsmouth, NH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
