This Pharmacy Technician role supports a busy local pharmacy by accurately processing and filling prescriptions, handling prior authorizations, and providing exceptional customer service to patients, healthcare providers, and insurance representatives. You will work closely with pharmacists and other team members in a fast-paced, closed-door environment, ensuring prescriptions are processed correctly, efficiently, and in compliance with pharmacy standards.
Responsibilities- Communicate clearly and professionally with doctors’ offices, insurance companies, patients, and internal staff to resolve questions and issues related to prescriptions and coverage.
- Input prescriptions accurately into the pharmacy system from both electronic and hard copy sources.
- Fill prescriptions with attention to detail, following established procedures and safety standards.
- Manually process prescription orders when needed, ensuring completeness and accuracy of all information.
- Perform data entry in the pharmacy system, maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient and prescription records.
- Handle prior authorization requests, coordinating with providers and insurance companies to obtain necessary approvals.
- Support general pharmacy operations, including order entry, prescription refills, and related healthcare and pharmacy support tasks.
- Provide strong customer service by responding to patient inquiries, addressing concerns, and ensuring a positive experience.
- Manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously in a high-activity environment while maintaining reliability and accuracy.
- Collaborate with pharmacists and other team members to ensure smooth workflow and consistent coverage during all shifts.
- Pharmacy technician license or pharmacy technician certification (such as CPhT) preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in filling prescriptions and processing prescription orders.
- Prior authorization experience within a healthcare or pharmacy setting.
- Knowledge of healthcare and pharmacy support processes, including order entry and prescription refills.
- Understanding of health insurance and pharmacy insurance procedures.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients, doctors, and insurance representatives.
- Excellent organizational abilities and reliability in managing daily tasks.
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities in a busy environment.
- Effective verbal communication skills for working with patients, providers, insurance companies, and colleagues.
- Experience working in a pharmacy or healthcare environment.
- Comfort with data entry and using pharmacy systems for order processing.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a supportive, cohesive team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all aspects of prescription handling.
- Adaptability to flexible shifts and rotating weekend schedules.
This position is based in the closed-door section of a local pharmacy with a lively, high-activity atmosphere where there is always something to work on. The team operates like a close-knit family, with a supportive and cohesive culture and an owner who is actively involved in day-to-day operations. You will never work alone; there is always someone on shift with you, providing opportunities to learn every aspect of the role. The pharmacy has been open for 70 years and employs approximately 41 staff members, including 5 pharmacists. The pharmacy is open 7 days a week, and shifts are flexible, typically running 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. during training, then 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., 11:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m., or 12:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m., with rotating weekend coverage.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Edison, NJ.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.
