Job Description

Join a dynamic and fast-paced environment as a Phlebotomist in one of the busiest offices in the region, currently staffed with seven phlebotomists, aiming to expand to nine. This role involves crucial tasks such as blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information.

Responsibilities

• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
• Understand and follow physicians' orders accurately.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels match scripts accurately.
• Package specimens for transport following specific protocols.
• Store specimen samples at required temperatures, placing them in appropriate collection containers, and accurately label them.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department training sessions.
• Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.

Essential Skills

• Strong phlebotomy skills
• Excellent customer service
• Pediatric experience
• Minimum of 2 years experience

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Ability to handle high patient volume, seeing over 200 patients per day
• Experience with processing and centrifuging
• Understanding of specimen transport protocols

Work Environment

This role is situated in a fast-paced environment, requiring you to be on your feet and moving throughout the day. You will primarily focus on blood drawing, with training provided for specimen processing and centrifuging. The position operates from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM, including every third Saturday from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The office does not require covering front desk duties, and you will work in a setting known for its excellent pediatric blood draw services.
