Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Wastewater Operator to perform and document various tests and analyses as required by state, federal, and local agencies. The role requires the ability to work independently and have a comprehensive understanding of operations and laboratory methods at a pretreatment plant. The operator will handle equipment such as pumps and clarifiers, diagnose malfunctions, and perform installations, maintenance, and repairs. The role requires on-call availability for emergencies and breakdowns, and support for a 24/7 operation, including weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Perform and document various tests and analyses as required by Operations, State, Federal, and Local agencies.
- Operate and understand laboratory methods and procedures of a pretreatment plant.
- Diagnose and correct equipment malfunctions involving pumps, clarifiers, etc.
- Learn and apply knowledge of State, Federal, and Local agency regulations, alongside OSHA safety regulations.
- Be on-call to respond to emergencies and breakdowns at the pretreatment plant and pump stations.
- Perform installation, maintenance, and unscheduled maintenance and repair of all plant equipment.
- Assist in regular and unscheduled maintenance and repair of plant equipment.
- Pass NMED Wastewater certification levels within a reasonable timeframe.
- Support a 24/7 operation by being available to work weekends and holidays.

- Ability to work in environments with varying temperatures and around chemical fumes
- Ability to work in tight spaces, around sharp edges, and with hammering and impact tools
- Safety consciousness with hazardous chemicals and wearing personal protective equipment, such as a respirator

Work Environment
The Wastewater Operator currently works a rotating schedule of 6 days on, 1 day off, followed by 4 days on, 3 days off. The work environment involves varying degrees of temperature, exposure to chemical fumes, tight spaces, and work with sharp edges and impact tools. Personal protective equipment, such as respirators, is required.
