Job Title: Phlebotomist

Job Description

The Phlebotomist will be responsible for identifying the best method for retrieving specimens and preparing them for laboratory testing, while maintaining top standards of safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Verify clinical lab test orders and report discrepancies to the appropriate clinical staff.
• Confirm patient information using two patient identifiers.
• Decipher the best method for obtaining blood samples depending on the specific patient.
• Obtain blood specimens by performing venipunctures and fingersticks.
• Dispose of contaminated sharps in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies.
• Track collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintain daily tallies of collections performed.
• Maintain quality results by following department procedures and complying with legal regulations.
• Practice infection control standards at all times when working with patients and equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 1-2 years of phlebotomy experience

Work Environment

The position involves working in various locations including Fishkill, New Windsor, and Poughkeepsie, with hours from Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
