Job Description
This position offers an experienced Project Architect the opportunity to step into a high-impact leadership role on a complex architectural project where the firm is assuming responsibility for an existing design nearing the production/construction document phase. You will serve as the technical and production lead under the guidance of a Project Manager, taking ownership of drawing quality, coordination, and delivery. This role focuses on assessing and refining inherited drawing sets, leading production teams, and ensuring accurate, complete, and coordinated documentation that aligns with project standards and reduces risk across a complex project environment.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical and production lead on a high-priority architectural project under the direction of the Project Manager.
- Review and assess existing drawing sets to understand the current state of the design and documentation.
- Identify gaps, inconsistencies, and potential risks within inherited drawings and documentation.
- Lead production efforts and oversee intermediate architects and production staff throughout the CD phase.
- Ensure all deliverables are accurate, complete, coordinated, and aligned with established project standards and milestones.
- Provide clear technical direction to the project team and maintain drawing quality between key project milestones.
- Critique and reshape inherited designs to improve constructability, clarity, and coordination.
- Guide and review Revit-based production work, ensuring models and drawing sets meet technical and quality expectations.
- Support the Project Manager with technical input and coordination on complex, high-profile institutional and commercial projects.
- Collaborate closely with internal staff and contract resources to maintain consistent delivery and reduce project risk.
- Quickly onboard into an existing project environment and become productive in a fast-paced setting.
- Communicate clearly and regularly with project leadership and team members to address issues and maintain alignment.
- Proven experience as a Project Architect leading full production and delivery of architectural projects, not only contributing to portions of the work.
- Demonstrated ability to step into partially completed drawing sets and immediately assess quality, gaps, and areas for improvement.
- Strong technical expertise in production and construction document (CD) phases, including the ability to critique and refine inherited designs.
- Advanced working knowledge of Revit with the ability to review, direct, and guide production and Revit model management.
- Experience directing intermediate architects and production staff, ensuring drawing sets are accurate, complete, and coordinated.
- Background supporting Project Managers on complex projects, preferably in institutional and commercial sectors.
- Proven track record leading drawing production teams in a collaborative, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across internal teams and external resources.
- Demonstrated stability in prior roles, reflecting reliability and long-term engagement on projects.
- Experience with institutional and adaptive reuse projects.
- Exposure to complex, high-profile projects and comfort working within a highly visible project environment.
- Ability to quickly onboard into existing projects and become effective in a fast-paced setting.
- Interest in potential long-term conversion, depending on performance and business needs.
- Comfort interacting with project leadership and principals, providing clear and concise technical updates.
