Job Title: Commercial HVAC Service Technician
Job Description
The Commercial HVAC Service Technician installs, maintains, and repairs commercial HVAC systems, applying strong knowledge of refrigeration theory, electrical schematics, pneumatics, electronic control systems, pipe fitting, welding and brazing, and mechanical layouts. This role focuses on delivering high-quality service and installation work on a variety of commercial HVAC units across the Western New York area.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair commercial HVAC systems in accordance with mechanical layouts and work plans.
- Perform diagnostic troubleshooting on HVAC equipment using refrigeration theory, electrical schematics, pneumatics, and electronic control systems.
- Conduct preventive maintenance on commercial HVAC units to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Service and install HVAC units, including related components such as ductwork and sheet metal assemblies.
- Install, repair, and modify duct work and sheet metal components to support HVAC system performance.
- Utilize strong mechanical aptitude to identify, diagnose, and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.
- Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and work plans to complete installations and repairs accurately.
- Perform welding and brazing tasks as needed for HVAC piping and component installation or repair.
- Document service and installation work clearly and accurately, maintaining detailed records of tasks performed.
- Communicate effectively with team members and customers to explain findings, recommended repairs, and maintenance needs.
- Work after hours, on weekends, and on public holidays when required, sometimes with short or no notice.
- Work safely in confined spaces and various commercial environments while adhering to all safety procedures and guidelines.
Essential Skills
- Hands-on experience in servicing and installing commercial HVAC units.
- Proficient electrical and mechanical diagnostic skills for HVAC systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for refrigeration, electrical, pneumatic, and electronic control systems.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance on commercial HVAC equipment.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, mechanical layouts, and work plans.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to install and repair HVAC components and duct work.
- Experience with sheet metal work related to HVAC systems.
- Ability to perform welding and brazing for HVAC piping and components.
- EPA Universal certification or the ability to work with refrigerants in compliance with regulations.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work after hours, weekends, and public holidays with short or no notice as needed.
- Physical agility and dexterity with the ability to work in confined spaces and varied field conditions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience installing and servicing a variety of commercial HVAC units across multiple sites.
- Experience in installing HVAC components, including duct work and related accessories.
- Comfort working independently in the field while maintaining strong customer service standards.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple service calls and maintenance tasks.

Work Environment
This is a field-based role with a standard schedule of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. You will work throughout the Western New York area, traveling to various commercial sites to service and install HVAC units. The work involves both indoor and outdoor environments, including mechanical rooms, rooftops, and confined spaces, and requires physical agility and dexterity. You will use tools and equipment related to HVAC service, installation, diagnostics, sheet metal work, and welding/brazing, while following all applicable safety procedures and site requirements.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tonawanda, NY.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $40.00/hr.
