Job Description
This Quality Engineer role focuses on driving robust quality processes, leading structured problem-solving, and supporting inspection and measurement activities in a modern manufacturing environment. You will investigate nonconformances, implement effective corrective and preventive actions, and ensure compliance with ISO 9001 while collaborating closely with production, engineering, and inspection teams.
Responsibilities Include
- Lead root cause investigations for customer complaints, supplier issues, internal nonconformances, and process failures.
- Develop, implement, and track Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) using methodologies such as 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone diagrams, statistical analysis, and other structured problem-solving tools.
- Provide technical support to inspectors across receiving, first article, in-process, and final inspection activities to ensure consistent and accurate evaluation of product quality.
- Create, maintain, and improve quality documentation including PFMEA, Control Plans, inspection plans, validation documentation, and support for APQP/PPAP activities.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with ISO 9001 and related quality system requirements by supporting audits, documentation, and process adherence.
- Analyze quality data and metrics to identify trends, drive defect reduction, and improve process capability and overall product quality.
- Support measurement and inspection processes, including Measurement System Analysis (MSA), capability studies, Statistical Process Control (SPC), and coordination of calibration activities.
- Interpret engineering drawings and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to guide inspection criteria and quality standards.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, process engineering, and other stakeholders to implement process improvements and strengthen quality controls.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities, proposing solutions, and supporting implementation and follow-up.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Quality, or a related discipline).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in manufacturing or quality engineering; 5 or more years of experience is preferred.
- Hands-on experience with CAPA and root cause analysis, including structured problem-solving methods such as 8D, 5-Why, and Fishbone diagrams.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T principles in a manufacturing and inspection context.
- Working knowledge of statistical methods, including SPC, capability studies, and other quality tools used to analyze and control processes.
- Experience working within ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems, including documentation and compliance activities.
- Proficiency in quality engineering practices such as PFMEA, Control Plans, and process improvement in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and recommend effective corrective actions.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with production, engineering, and quality teams.
- Openness to candidates from Process or Manufacturing Engineering backgrounds who are motivated to transition into a quality-focused role.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with Measurement System Analysis (MSA) to evaluate and improve measurement reliability.
- Experience in calibration, metrology, or the use of CMM and optical measurement systems for precision inspection.
- Experience with APQP and PPAP processes, including preparation and maintenance of related documentation.
- Practical experience developing and maintaining PFMEA and Control Plans to manage and mitigate process risks.
- Familiarity with root cause analysis software or digital tools that support CAPA and problem-solving activities.
- Exposure to manufacturing engineering and process improvement initiatives in a production environment.
- Knowledge of gage R&R studies and other techniques to assess measurement system performance.
- Comfort working in a hands-on role that combines laboratory, production floor, and office-based quality engineering tasks.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cleveland, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $32.00 - $38.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
