Job Description
The Safety Specialist oversees all safety-related needs on assigned projects and ensures that every team member onsite is prepared to work safely and follows established safety protocols and procedures. This role actively engages with field teams, collaborates with the client and the Territory Safety Lead, and helps ensure that safety program goals are met and exceeded through consistent monitoring, coaching, and accurate reporting.
Responsibilities
- Review all work activities on site during assigned shifts to promote safe work practices and ensure appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Engage craft and field personnel regularly to reinforce safety expectations and influence positive behavioral change.
- Hold team members accountable for following safety protocols and procedures, addressing unsafe behaviors and conditions promptly and professionally.
- Collaborate with the client and the Territory Safety Lead to align site practices with established safety program goals and requirements.
- Complete all required internal safety documentation related to the shift and phase of work, including reports, logs, and incident records.
- Prepare and submit external safety-related paperwork as needed to comply with project, client, or regulatory requirements.
- Perform multiple safety observations each week, document findings, and follow up on corrective actions to drive continuous improvement.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of safety policies, procedures, and standards across the project site.
- Participate in safety meetings, briefings, and toolbox talks to communicate hazards, controls, and best practices to onsite personnel.
Essential Skills
- At least 2 years of experience working in a safety-focused role, preferably in a construction or field-based environment.
- Demonstrated ability to review onsite work activities and identify potential hazards, unsafe conditions, and at-risk behaviors.
- Strong working knowledge of safety protocols, procedures, and regulatory requirements relevant to construction or industrial settings.
- Proficiency in promoting proper PPE usage and enforcing compliance with safety standards.
- Ability to complete accurate and timely safety documentation, including reports, observations, and incident records.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to engage craft workers, supervisors, and leadership in safety discussions.
- Certification as a Construction Site Technician (CST).
- Completion of OSHA 30-hour training (OSHA 30).
