Job Description
The Unison Test Technician supports testing and validation activities in an electronics-focused environment, with a strong emphasis on data acquisition, control system setup, and industrial signal communication. The role involves configuring National Instruments hardware and software, implementing proper wiring practices, and selecting appropriate instrumentation for test stands to ensure accurate, reliable, and safe test operations.
Responsibilities
- Configure and operate data acquisition systems for electronic testing to capture accurate and reliable measurement data.
- Set up and wire control systems, ensuring proper signal integrity, adherence to wiring standards, and compliance with safety requirements.
- Work with industrial communication protocols, including 4–20 mA current loops, Ethernet/IP, and voltage-based signals, to support robust device communication.
- Select, install, and verify thermocouples for temperature measurement applications, ensuring correct type and placement for test requirements.
- Specify, configure, and integrate DC power supplies for test stands, taking into account load requirements, safety standards, and application needs.
- Determine appropriate wire gauge and type for various circuits and environments based on current, voltage, and installation conditions.
- Troubleshoot and verify communication between devices using protocols such as CAN and Ethernet/IP to resolve connectivity and data issues.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to ensure accurate test data, reliable system performance, and effective resolution of test-related issues.
- Support the setup and integration of sensors, including thermocouples and strain gauges, into data acquisition and control systems.
- Apply signal conditioning techniques, such as amplification, filtering, and isolation, to optimize measurement quality and protect equipment.
- Hands-on experience setting up and operating electronic test systems and test stands.
- Proficiency in configuring and using data acquisition systems in an electronics environment.
- Experience with industrial communication protocols, including 4–20 mA, Ethernet/IP, voltage signals, and CAN.
- Strong understanding of wiring practices, including wire gauge selection based on ampacity and voltage drop.
- Ability to set up, wire, and troubleshoot control systems while maintaining signal integrity and safety compliance.
- Experience selecting and installing thermocouples for temperature measurement applications.
- Ability to specify and configure DC power supplies for a variety of test applications, considering load and safety requirements.
- Knowledge of DAQ system components, including sensors (thermocouples, strain gauges) and signal conditioning (amplifiers, filters, isolation).
- Strong understanding of industrial signal protocols and best practices for reliable signal transmission.
- Knowledge of thermocouple types and cold-junction compensation principles.
- Familiarity with National Instruments platforms, including CompactDAQ, cRIO, NI-DAQmx, and LabVIEW.
- Experience with DAQ hardware and software integration in a laboratory or test environment.
- Ability to interpret test requirements and translate them into practical test setups and configurations.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for resolving communication, wiring, and instrumentation issues.
- Attention to detail in documentation, test setup verification, and data validation.
The role operates in a hands-on electronics test and validation environment, working closely with engineering teams and using National Instruments platforms such as CompactDAQ, cRIO, NI-DAQmx, and LabVIEW. The technician regularly works with sensors, thermocouples, strain gauges, signal conditioning equipment, DC power supplies, and industrial communication interfaces including 4–20 mA, Ethernet/IP, voltage signals, and CAN. Work typically takes place in a lab or test-stand setting that emphasizes safety, precision, and adherence to established test procedures and wiring standards, with appropriate technical tools and test equipment provided.
