Job Title: Geotechnical Engineering Technician
Job Description
Join our team as a Geotechnical Engineering Technician, where you will support various projects by providing field support, data management and interpretation, technical assistance, and reporting. You will play a critical role in ensuring all necessary data is collected during field activities and assist with engineering calculations and design under the supervision of a project engineer.
Responsibilities
- Perform test pits, wildcat dynamic cone penetrometer tests, check foundation-bearing subgrades, and prepare letters for review by the project engineer/manager.
- Prepare models and perform geotechnical engineering calculations and design as needed under direct supervision.
- Collect project information and prepare engineering figures, drawings, reports, and other deliverables for review by the project engineer.
- Read and interpret construction drawings and documents, comprehend and interpret local building codes, and inspect projects to ensure compliance with safety codes and other regulations.
- Develop relationships and establish communication with clients, while working independently.
- Assist with geotechnical sampling activities under the direction of project engineers and managers.
- Accurately collect data and prepare logs for activities such as sampling soils and rock cores, drilling activities, and groundwater levels.
- Monitor and document construction activities, perform sampling and testing of construction materials, and assist with other activities under the direction of the QA/QC manager and the client as needed.
Essential Skills
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents.
- Perform materials testing.
- Proficiency in QA/QC, construction, concrete, geotechnical, soil testing, and soil compaction.
- Hold a 40-hour OSHA certificate.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- ABET-Accredited B.S. in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnics, Construction Engineering Technology, or a directly related field.
- 0-3 years of professional experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Civil or Environmental Engineering, or Construction Technology.
- Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and ability to drive a pickup truck.
Work Environment
Our dynamic work environment offers a small business atmosphere with the opportunity to work on over 500 jobs per year. You will travel to job sites to conduct testing and investigation, with 50% of the work being field-based, mostly local. A reliable method of transportation is required, with mileage reimbursement provided. You will have access to a company vehicle and competitive compensation.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Doylestown, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
